I am so nervous for D’s taking finals this week. I know he will do fine. And I know that he is much less.nervous than I am!! But I cant help but have butterflies in my tummy for him.

Anyone else like that?

Anyone else like that?

Thanks momsings…this is a house *selling *at the moment, but after this…not sure!

Me vlines!! I am also nervous for DS. This is so new to him, having such a weighted exam and my son I now playing catch up on some of the reading that he put off.

last day of classes tomorrow for my son - hard to believe the first semester is almost behind him. 4 study days and then final exams and papers due…Two weeks and he comes home to get his wisdom teeth pulled - what a way to celebrate!!
he did a secret santa with friends and their limite was $15 - much more acceptable that $100! I don’t even spend that much on relatives!
a little sad celebrating hanukkah without him home, but sent him a few little gifts and we will light the candles and pretent one night when he is here.
happy hanukkah to all who celebrate!

D’s school doesn’t have a reading week. Classes end Thursday and exams start on Friday

I’m not really nervous for D, but her physics final exam is worth 45% of the final grade, which is contributing to her anxiety about it, I think. I’ll be glad for her when that one is over.

Dang… 45% of the final grade is just way too much!!!

My kid has one more reading day this week (Tues) and last final should be done before 1 pm on Thursday. Then catching a plane back home that evening for a 4-week winter break. Hasn’t been here since August 13.

Which colleges have winter breaks lasting longer than a month? And are those colleges on the semester system?

DS would have been home for more than a month, but he has to go back for fraternity house cleaning. Only the freshman cleaning crew and the seniors who are there for Senior Comps will be in the house, so he will go back a couple days short of a month. He is on the semester system, but Senior Comps seem to throw off the schedule.

vlines, I was just sitting here, starting to get knots in my stomach thinking about D starting finals tomorrow. She was pretty stressed a few days ago when we talked to her and I spent this evening debating whether it would help or hurt if I called to wish her well. Decided not to distract her but I’m as nervous for her as I was many years ago taking college finals for the first time. My S, a junior, is finishing up his last paper tonight and comes home tomorrow. Final tests and papers have always come easier to him.

DS posted that he has four finals in four days. He does have a reading week, but it’s a lot of studying for those four finals!

DS has two finals tomorrow and one on Tuesday. His other classes had papers that he completed already. After a stressful call yesterday with tales of missing wallets, lost notes for a paper, etc. he sounded upbeat today.

Of course, that may change tomorrow when he is actually completing his finals.

seiclan - glad to hear your guy is in better spirits!

vlines - I’m definitely right there with you - probably more concerned than he is!

When I talked with him over the weekend he told me classes end Wed and exams start Sunday with Calc - the easiest one for him (WOW, never knew any colleges had Sunday exams…) When I mentioned that it was nice for him to get a break for a couple of days he said, “Break? What BREAK is this you’re talking about?” I told him, “I thought you said you didn’t have classes Th or Fri…” He replied, “Mom, there’s no classes, but that’s when study groups start! They take longer…”

He’ll be home from Dec 20th - Jan 15th, not quite a month, but close. I’m looking forward to it. I don’t know if he’ll get bored after a couple of days though. We’re rural, so there won’t be pizza and wings at 2am… not unless he’s in the kitchen making them. With Christmas and relatives and catching up with friends, I think he’ll enjoy himself. Oldest and fiancee will be here for a week during that time.

My D is in her crunch time. Most of her classes have big final projects/papers instead of a final exam. Today is her last day of classes. Her only actual final exam is December 20th. I really wish it had been earlier so she could have come home before the 21st. She signed up to work every day during her 10 days “off”. Flights were a lot more expensive on Friday the 21st than on the 20th, but her exam is too late to catch any of the flights on the 20th. So frustrating!

She is going back to school a week early because she’s in the Emerging Leaders Program. She has to be back on January 13th instead of the 20th. Her birthday is the 14th so we’ll have to celebrate early.

If her twitter is accurate, she procrastinated on most of what is due today and pulled an all nighter last night. This may be the term to learn that procrastinating doesn’t work in college.

2016BarnardMom, my D isn’t coming home until the 21st. I hear you on the airfare. Big difference in $ between S coming home on the 18th and her flight on the 21st. But I guess she needs to stay for finals!

woody35, D will be home over a month. Her school has a semester system, but also has a January term. In addition to offering classes, I believe some of the winter sports use the time for practice and competition. She she’s a senior now, and this will be her first entire January term home since her first year. Her sophomore year she did a short study abroad during January term, and last year she left Jan. 4 for her semester study abroad for the spring term. She has an internship lined up while she’s home.

S doesn’t seemed stressed at all. Was watching Netflix movies on his computer yesterday. Hopefully he’s not stressed because he’s so well prepared for his finals?

@woody35 - DD is on Semester system with a “J” term. She’s home from December 21st (last final) through February 2nd (move in for 2nd semester, which starts Feb 4) :D:D

Getting so close! Like college_query, D home 12/22-1/26!!! Dead week this week - wonder how dead that will really be!

texaspg – I hear what you’re saying, but there’s really no danger as long as W is around.
S had a love/hate relationship with band and during some of his more “fun” moments, we tried to talk D out of it, but she wasn’t having it. She did refuse to play her brother’s instrument–drove the directors nuts because on “tryout” day, she was able to do things with a trumpet mouthpiece no one else could because she’d played with them at home trying to push her brother’s buttons.

S will be home the evening of the 14th, after his Developmental final. Dorms reopen on the sixth, so he’ll be home for three weeks. I think he’ll appreciate about a week’s worth of rest and then be bored the rest of the time.

Good luck on finals to all our kids!

D has three big finals in two days – Thursday and Friday. It occurs to me that this is yet another reason to be glad that she took all those AP classes in high school. Having to budget her study time and marshall her brain power for these college exams is alot like what she had to do last May for AP tests. (And how oh-so-long-ago do AP tests seem?!)

This Friday will be a TGIF, for sure!

I’m baking cookies now to mail to get there for reading week. S’s last final is the 19th so we’ll have him from the 20th until 1/14. He has lined up about 40 hours of work at his summer job place. It looks like he is planning lots of activities with his friends. I may have to exercise Mom’s prerogative to make sure we see him enough!

We received a text this weekend from S that said, “Help, I only have 85 cents left in my dining account!”

Since it’s only his first semester, we decided he shouldn’t starve as a consequence, so we helped him get more money in his account to last him until finals are over. My S has 4 days of classes left this semester and finals end middle of next week for him.

In the meantime, we sent him photos of our house already ready for the holidays. Tree is up, decorations are done … now he just needs to relax once he gets home.
