No dollhouses?

Turns out a cold and pinkeye are not terminal.
Hearing it’s 8 below I almost feel bad about forcing him out to get his meds… almost.

The forging signatures also reminds me about summer camp forms - after awhile we’ll just say not every form was exactly done the way they thought.

Hearing about the temps in Rochester makes me wonder if my UR guy is hibernating.

Youngest is in Jamaica this week. I’ll admit to being envious. He hates the cold, so won’t be disappointed at all to know he’s missed the coldest week in 2 years here.

In two years when I’m no longer tied to the school schedule (or so we think at this point), we’ll be spending 2 - 3 winter months in HI or FL (unlike the majority of the Caribbean, hubby can work there). I’m REALLY looking forward to that!

oldfort, I hope it is similar when my D finishes rush.

-6 here this morning.

toz- I remember the tunnels from the RIT tour. Between the dorms and there is a convenience store and other stuff down there. I don’t remember if they went to any classroom buildings. I remember the tunnels at UR also.

I wouldn’t mind having a tunnel to get to my car from the grocery store in this weather :)

I keep both where I live and Rochester on the top of my weather.com page and right now our temps are the same but it is snowing there.

my cubicle is along a window overlooking the main parking lot for my building. Last winter, at the end of the day, a woman walked to the window by my office and then left. She did this several times (different days.) Once I stood up and chatted with her to see what she was doing. She had a remote starter and she was turning on her car from inside, so that when she got out to it it was (relatively) warm and toasty.

I feel bad for all of you with the cold weather… Yesterday it was 75 here in Texas, the dog went swimming.

Oldfort- at D’s school they dry time during all of new member period. (I think 9 weeks?) They only had 1 mixer last fall because of the length of time. Much more fun stuff on the books this fall.

I’m going to Palm Springs this weekend, and the forecast is 70s and rainy. Don’t y’all feel sorry for me? ;)

Oh…it is very easy to have your keys fall right thru that (what you think is small) opening by the elevator! I have done it myself (very embarassing)…I was at work and immediately found maintenance and they stop the elevators briefly…enter the shaft at the basement level… and there are the keys laying on the ground! I had to get mine immediately or could not have driven home or accessed my house!

Pffffffft to mihcal1. Hope all the offspring who can’t be bothered with hats or even coats can stay warm!

Ok, after further review, I’ll postpone the caning until I get the opportunity to inspect the elevator in question. ;)

S picked out a pair of snow boots that were Amazon Prime eligible and I tacked on the four bucks for overnight shipping. He should have them tomorrow. He mentioned a “trapper hat.” I told him he needed to pick it out himself lest I do it for him and he end up walking across campus looking like a vewy, vewy annoyed Elmer Fudd.

D left her new, cute, warm hat at home. Perhaps I’ll wear it.

I love my remote start, but it won’t work from the 30th floor to the parking structure two blocks away, sadly. It works great from the living room to the driveway though! If my car was just a little bit newer, I could remote start it with a phone app through Onstar.

We’ll make up for it in May/June.
I definitely prefer the cold of winter to the excessive heat of summer (even when it’s a dry heat).

However, I look forward to the day when we can be nomads and pick our destination by the weather report… My ideal temps are between 55 and 80. That’s the window I’d want to stay in.

Sounds like you need a summer home in VT, Creekland. :).

I agree those are the ideal temps for outdoors, including exercise.

I used the cold weather as an excuse to check on S … He proved that he wasn’t going to play that game by texting back, “not a problem, I’m all set.” At least I know he is alive after 4 days of classes.

Mine is finally heading back today. Jan term idea is a nice one but it makes for an excessively long winter break. Two trips, one for all and one for her broke it up but next year, an internship or a jan term class will have to happen. Love her but almost 7 weeks at home is a bit too long with few friends here that long

^ We have our D for another week! Her siblings are here, so she’s quite happy to be home. At least the good-bye in February won’t be as wrenching as the one in August. I bet the second semester will fly by.

Hi Mary13! We’re off to buy books for 2nd Semester on Monday. DD will be moving back in on Thurs or Friday (she hasn’t decided yet). And I agree, the transition to the next half will be very smooth. I love the J term length.

^ My D is flying back next Sunday – and is now worried that she called that too close, given her flight home in December was delayed by 24 hours due to weather. Did your D get next year’s living situation resolved? Mine is still debating between a quad on campus or an apartment off-campus. The former would make life a lot easier, but the latter would allow her to continue living with her current roommate.

As long as there are no weather delays? Sunday should be fine.

And yes, for now. DD has said that she is going to pursue an upper class dorm in Flynn. It’s hard to get into though, so <fingers crossed="">, that will be the only anxious moment on the horizon. If that falls through? then I think plan “B” might still be off campus :(</fingers>
