Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - New beginnings

I have our guest room and basement ready … Maybe it’s a boy thing.

Wow, wedding plans - congrats! The time has really flown by. Good wishes to al with jobs and to those still planning, have confidence that they will figure it out. Everyone has matured so much in the last few years.

Sbjdorlo is winning! Congrats.

We just got cap and gown photos in the mail and I was freaking . . . but wedding bells!

CC randomly popped into my head today. It has been a very long time - I wasn’t sure if this thread was still active (is there another thread?). Just wanted to let you all know that I just received my first interview invite for a doctoral clinical psychology program. I am very excited, and nervous, but I hope I come out of this process with at least one acceptance. all the best to your families.

CPU, congrats! You have come a long way and should be very proud.

@CPUscientist3000 - awesome to hear from you and congratulations! I love seeing updates from some of the “old” posters.

Good luck to you, CPU!

Well I will chime in as well. I don’t think I have been here since Freshman year. DS will be going to medical school next year. I have gone back to college to finish my own degree as well. Wishing you all well. It has been a long road but the end is in sight, unless I count the 4 years of medical school, 3+ years of residency, etc.

Enjoying reading the updates! My D’s plans for after graduation aren’t yet settled, but I trust that everything will work out and, as several friends have reminded me, what she does next is probably not what she will be doing five years from now. She arrives home this afternoon for the holiday break.
One thing I know for sure is that I can ignore the email message I just received about creating a new FSA ID because we won’t be submitting a FAFSA for next year!

My D has a job offer with a consulting firm in Washington DC so at least we know she won’t be living in my basement post-graduation

Congratulations @2016BarnardMom

Congrats! Very exciting. Love these updates of our babies launching.

Wow - I haven’t been on CC in forever! It’s good to hear so many good reports! My son is starting his final semester. Overall it’s been a good 4 years, with some ups and downs. S has applied to grad schools and already has acceptances from 2 of his top choices, so he’s looking at 5 more years, give or take, of school.

So much wonderful news - congrats to all!

One year left for mine since he’s doing URoc’s official Take 5. At least there’s no tuition for next year. Otherwise, he’s gearing up for the MCAT and med school + MSTP apps while continuing his research - aka “staying busy!” We should see him over spring break, but he expects to be continuing his research over the summer, so we’ll have to visit up there to see him then.

Four years ago many of us were still waiting for their final acceptances… We hadn’t even visited URoc at this point in time. It’s hard to fathom how time can fly so quickly!

It’s been a while since I’ve checked this thread. I’m always in the “best buys” thread in the cafe.

Congrats to everyone posting good news! There’s even a wedding! Amazing!

D is enjoying her last semester of golf and has applied to law school. She’s received 3 acceptances (one with almost full tuition but not her first choice) and still is waiting on the others. She says this is the college search experience that she never had because she had committed to a school for golf early in high school.

DD is a semi-finalist for a Fulbright. It is what she really wants next, so she has been pretty slow to look at other options until she hears. But that might not be until May so she needs to start building a back-up plan. Loving her last semester, lots of plays, a cappella, voice recital, only one regular class (a seminar) and her thesis. Four years ago at this time we were in that magical lull when apps were finished and acceptances or denials not yet sent.

D graduates in June with a chem major. She was offered a full research job after the summer, but has turned it down since her goal is to become a PA. She will return home for 2 years to take 3 more classes that she could not fit into her schedule at her LAC plus work the 500-1000 patient care hours required but the schools.

As an aside…when she was 9, she asked if she could move home for a year after she graduated from college so she could see what it was like to be an only child. She is 3 of 4 and D2016 goes off to college this coming fall. I suggested that at 22, she might not want to boomerang back! But she is happy to be coming home as she has missed my cooking! I fear I failed to teach my kids to cook…

I am so enjoying all the updates - hope they keep rolling in!

Congrats to everyone and your kiddos. Job well done =D>

DD 12’ is moving home after graduation! We’re excited. She wants to save some $$ while apartment and car shopping. Public transportation picks up 1/2 mile from our front door and drops her off 2 blocks from her downtown office. It will be fun after experiencing the empty nest for a year.

DW and I are currently “wintering” for a month and a half in Florida - 1st time we’ve ever done this and it is going great. B-) while El Nino has made it a warmer than normal winter back home… 60’s and 70’s beat 20’s as a temperature, everyday!
