My son has the same situation with a friend - they got the exact same score on this year’s PSAT. They got the exact same score on each of the three categories of the PSAT. Last year, they got the exact same score, and when they took the SAT in 8th grade, they got the same score, including exact same math score. Weird! Wish their GPA’s were the same!

Congrats to all the great scores! I don’t think we will get our scores till next week. This weekeind will be filled with fun family adventures, so I’m hoping to just forget about it for a few days.

One more week for my D. We plan to go to Boston for a few days over the break. Any suggestions on what to do there?

I am looking forward to the break. My D is holding up well. They did a survey at her school asking kids what their stress level is. My D answered 4 out of 10. This kid is taking it too easy!

In Boston, there are several different companies that do hop-on-hop-off tours. They’re a good way to get around and see the various historic sites if you haven’t done that before.

We’re geeks, so I enjoyed browsing in bookstores in the MIT/Harvard area. There are totally different things available than at the bookstores here at home. :-)

D’s PSAT scores have been sitting in her mailbox at school all week. She has yet to pick them up. Glad she is not stressing bout it. We are not expecting much. She did no PSAT prep, only SAT prep. Also, we are in the MA, NE BS category with the highest cutoff in the nation. Just keeping the focus on the Jan SAT!

We’re waiting for PSAT scores, last year they didn’t get them until after winter break. I wish the counselors would just send out the scores to the students, but they want to have an assembly with all juniors, so the score release is delayed.

S did very well last year and I’m hoping that will be the case again this year. He bombed a math test later in the same day that he took the PSAT’s. Hopefully that was because he had been concentrating on the PSAT and not on the math!

Waiting for PSAT here too - traditionally they are given out after winter break.

Last year D was not far from the Commended cutoff, and her more recent, corresponding SAT scores were higher, so fingers crossed. On the SAT, it’s still the CR that holds her back - she doesn’t finish because she reads so slowly. That may be her nemesis on the PSAT too.

She is stressing mightily over a Spanish presentation - it’s done with another student and if their grade is high enough, they are exempt from the final. The presentation was supposed to happen today, but D was out sick 2 days this week (in bed with a fever); the teacher accused D of “abandoning” her partner. The teacher grudgingly changed the presentation date to next Tuesday, but D is convinced that the teacher will penalize her grade-wise for being absent, and she will end up having to take the final.

Iglooo… Boston’s science museum is pretty cool, and the Museum of Fine Arts is wonderful. If the weather is at all okay it’s a wonderful city for walking-- Back Bay, Beacon Hill, and the North End are among the neighborhoods that have a real old world feel. Ice skating on the Frog Pond can be fun, and in the evening you can go to Top of the Hub (top floor of the John Hancock building) for a drink or dinner and look out over the whole city. Of course Cambridge is cool too-- have a great time!

PS-- the APUSH text my D is enjoying is The American Pageant-- I promised to report this days ago but just remembered.

DS got his PSAT scores today and he did better than his friend, who he usually parallels, but not even close to NM or commended. He did get a perfect score on the Math section though! That’s my kid, lopsided. Now he is upstairs happily playing his Xbox live…and the beat goes on.

S got his scores, and though his scores improved from the last SAT, it is not enough for even commended. He is thrilled, though, because it means that he never has to see the SAT again! He is currently upstairs studying the science section for the ACT test tomorrow. Just glad that it is almost over (at least until June).

Well, Dec. 10th came and went - no PSAT scores. Exams run the 15th - 17th. I suppose we won’t get them until after winter break. I could call the GC and ask when they will be released, but I don’t want her to think that I am “that parent.” Actually, I know that I am “that parent,” but I don’t want anybody else to know it.

gl to MizzBee’s S and DB’s D on the ACT today. My D who was sick earlier in the week, and whom I let go to the school semiformal last night says she’d rather be back in bed, but it will be a good experience. I also see I didn’t sign up for the writing section but that that can be added on the test day. I guess I am getting sloppy in round 2?

Thank you for suggestions about Boston visit. It all sounds great. Looking forward to the trip.

Good Luck to everyone taking ACT. Poor kids. It seems they have tests everyday.

gildo, my D got her score yesterday the 10th. She may be in if the cutoff doesn’t climb up much. We decided to forget about it. Too long a wait to get anxious until next September when the letters come out.

I am sadly That Parent. I guess this is like That Kid which is a common fixture at my D1’s school. But I try to keep my That Parent -ness in the positive, ie being a source of knowledge for other parents and try not to annoy the counselor that much.

D was very much behind the eight ball this morning, forgetting her head if it wasn’t attached, etc. Well, I’m only going to think positively and hope today’s does give her some positive knowledge for a retake. Busy weekend for her- she is doing some driving hours afterwards, has a lot of work to make up from her 1.5 days out of school sick, plus her sister comes home from college this afternoon (!!!) and they’ll want to spend some time together.

D1, my college graduate, is currently taking the LSAT. I hope that she can bring up her scores a bit so that she can get into a law school for next year. She is currently working full time in a small law firm and is doing very well there but she is ready to get back to school.

D2, my UCF Junior, is home now after a grueling and very disappointing semester. Organic chemistry did a number on her and despite tutoring and many hours of study, she needs to retake the class. My heart goes out to her, this ruined her otherwise wonderful GPA, but, this too shall pass.

DS was happy with his math PSAT (who wouldn’t be?) but not concerned at all about the CR and W. I can see that this spring and summer I will need to start a need thread about high GPA kids with mediocre test scores to try to get a better handle on where he should apply for college. There currently are NO threads like this here…all the threads are either high/high or low or middling GPA with high test scores. I need to see a thread about kids who have an unweighted GPA of 3.8ish but SAT’s under 2000 !!!
I will wait until spring or summer though, maybe he can bring it up a bit by then?
