Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - Original

Avalanche of nest fouling here! Just venting…

Newbie on board… Happy Mother’s Day to all! Forgive the following ,mindless ramblings of a mom who’s brain was filled with so many emotions today. I am very grateful for this board and website. I am a “happy wreak” about my first and only daughter leaving for college in just 2 months. I am blessed that she will only be about 35 min away (Fordham University), but no matter how close or far, we all have to stare at that empty bedroom in a few weeks. I find it mind boggling how fast the years have flown by- I can’t believe she will be 18 on her first day of classes… OMG- she wont even be home for her birthday !!! This Mother’s Day has been filled with so many emotions that I think only a mother can know- Im happy and sad at the same exact time, proud and worried at the same exact time, amazed at how grown up she is, but cant imagine her being out on her own. I’m just so full of so many emotions it almost takes my breathe away. How will she go from living in the Long Island Bubble, attending an all girl catholic school bubble for the past four years, only child, spoiled, the center of attention for almost 18 years , and hasher own personal salve (her dotting father) to …College/ Freedom/ The Bronx !!! I just cant believe she is really leaving. I knew it was coming, but it’s almost here . I just am so melancholy today- happy but a bit sad…its a very different Moms Day for me… Thank God for prom drama, and graduation to keep my mind busy !!:0

Just back from brunch and I feel a nap coming on. Boys are headed home from Columbus, lost their game today, did not advance to the championship. Oh well, they won two good ones yesterday!

If anyone wants a free movie from RedBox today, just use the code May13. It’s their Moms Day promotion.

Looking back a few pages for the college list. I need to bookmark it or something because I can’t remember where all these kids are headed in the fall.

Responsible for the Mother’s Day Breakfast at church. Our interim priest did question why it is the women putting on the breakfast–long story–made us think–will happen differently next year. But it was nice. Came home and H made me brunch.

S studying US history for his last IB history exam tomorrow.

Lots of Sunday naps at our house today.

Happy Mother’s Day!

giterdone: I had to tell you that DS sharpened my lawnmower blade for mother’s day. I finally had the courage to tell him that no, I didn’t want him to mow the law for me because I like it better how I mow it. He took it well. He also held up the rhodies with a broom handle so I could mow under the droopy edges.

DH also started trying to call his mother early and kept trying until he got her - yeah! Now a I can relax and don’t have to remember to remind him again later.

DD is having a hard earned nap. She is “in a mood” today, but more on that later as it unfolds. Let me just say that hell hath no fury like woman scorned!

Renee: Thanks for the redbox code - I will try it to see if they have anything good available

momsings: any luck with the tickets?

Happy Wackaloon Mother’s Day!

So funny how everyone likes to go to concerts of some of the considered “oldies” my kids do that too. I took one to see Tina Turner and she loved it.
Those cards are awesome, I got a really special one too. which was sweet.
jaylynn thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it. I am getting my kids vaccinated for a second time. it wasnt recomended when I did the first time, but although day students at a boarding school, they are exposed non the less. My kids had titers drawn for chicken pox. They had good titers after one shot.
I am a health care worker and I did not have a hep b titer so was revaccinated.
My D’s were not keen on the guardasil, however, I had to face the fact that all situations may not be in their control, and they would not need that worry. My D also got a TDAP to volunteer at a hospital and had a bad reaction. kudos for getting your boys vaccinated. I talked to some young girls at work and they said HPV is very common. We have also had increasedincidence of kids contracting whooping cough and dying. It seems that people are not vaccinating their kids, this is more common on the west coast. (so I hear) but it is becoming a serious issue. And on that note…Happy Mother’s Day!

cphelan I’m sure we will all have moments like that. I almost don’t dare because D herself is soooo anxious about leaving. She’s an only too. Today we found some pretty sheets for her dorm (big sale at PB Teen for anyone who’s interested) and suddenly she said “I can’t handle this! I don’t want to leave!” I think its great that yours is so close by! D will be 4 hours away but I’ve promised we’ll see each other once a month, one way or another.

Happy Mother’s day to all, after this year when we’ve really put the mothering pedal to the metal as it were! I got flowers and a card D had written with such honest love. And saw her perform in a festival of new plays-- have never seen her do such a great job, people were crying. It made me know she’s ready for the work ahead, which is to say, a very good Mothers Day gift!

saintfan, can you send him over?

D and H made me breakfast and D wrote a very sweet card, and I burst into tears at the table. Couldn’t help it. Likely our last Mother’s Day breakfast for at least the next four years. But maybe that’s wrong – college gets out earlier than high school, right?

Whooping cough is not usually life-threatening in older kids or adults. The problem with whopping cough in teens and adults is that they act as the reservoir and source for whooping cough in infants, who die from it. There have been a concerning number of infant deaths in California and Washington state this year from pertussis (whooping cough). The tdap is the pertussis-containing vaccine that takes the place of the “tetanus booster” for older kids, teens and adults. Get it!! Every ten years and/or after a dirty cut. Please! Help the babies!

Off soapbox.

Gorgeous day here in the PacNW and all over the country from the sounds of it. We’re just chilling out and it’s been terrific. D is trying not to freak about IB History tomorrow because she really doesn’t want to study more and I’m thisclose to telling her to blow it off, but that wouldn’t be like me. But I’m all “whatever” at this point, truth be known.

jaylynn and yalegradanddad,

How do we do the medical power of attorney? Do colleges have a form or do we have to actually use a lawyer? I do want to be able to have access to medical records of my son.

DH and my two D’s made me a yummy breakfast of Lobster Benedict this morning. Also had cut fruit and yogurt. Went out to lunch later for clam pizza (a rare dish in our area). And later on, the two D’s and I played some easy string trios. That’s the type of Mother’s Day that I like.

This is definitely the last Mother’s Day before D1 leaves for college at the University of Maryland at College Park (she will be living on campus). She will be close by us but neither DH and I look forward to seeing her empty room in the fall.

Happy Mother’s day to the mamas and the stand-in mamas in the Waclakoon Nation.

Saintfan–no can do, I have to wait until general tickets go on sale tomorrow!!

What a fun mother’s day. Stuffed silly with sushi then The Avengers at the movies with boys and H.

DW and D1 spent big chunks of the afternoon in the kitchen bonding over a dinner of scallops, shrimp and a greek thing with spinach and feta wrapped in phyllo dough.

We pigged out and introduced the girls to the glories of Ferris Buellers Day Off.

Gorgeous day in the Northeast today too!

Got the dreaded “There’s someone in your child’s class with lice.” letter this weekend.

Familyof3Boys–sorry about the lice. I can think of nothing less pleasant.

In metro Atlanta it was a glorious day for the reservoirs. We do need water. Got out for a bit with the dogs after dinner since there was a break in the rain.

D is watching a video instead of studying for AP Physics. Well, she’s studied a lot all semester. Guess she figures she knows what she knows at this point.
