Those taking the SAT on Saturday: I’d recommend getting the test back via the College Board “QAS”. This can be helpful for future SAT tests, if it becomes necessary to take them again.

Re Chemistry SAT 2, if the course is still ongoing, why would the student want to take the test now? This is a hard test taken by students who are really tippy top judging from the percentile rankings. Wouldn’t it make more sense to study along the subjects that are not covered, finish the course and then take the test in May or June? just my .02

Well, DS, who said he would self prep, just admitted to me that he did no prep for Saturday’s SAT. I am not surprised, given his MO these past few months. I did order the Q and A service so that the tutor that we almost definitely will have (to prep for the June SAT) will know how to focus the studies.

He has one more day left of midterms, with two very important exams tomorrow. He is studying now (too little, too late IMHO). It is what it is. I really do love this kid on my couch…he just hasn’t hit his stride yet.

Taking Chem SAT now is the teacher’s idea. I don’t think they are covering the material in the course.

D is taking her first SAT on Sat. Ordered the Q and A. Hoping she is one and done but I think that is wishful thinking. She has huge test anxiety. Her tutor is having her get to the test site 10 minutes early and having her write out her fears hoping this will help.

My twins12 are taking the SAT on Saturday. They took it in 7th grade for talent search, but this will be the first “real” take. They have each done two full tests from the Real SAT book and some additional practice on the essays. If they can do as well on the real test as they have done on the practices, I will be very happy.
They have their last first semester finals today. Finals got moved back a day due to bad weather earlier in the week. Today was supposed to be a day off from school. Oh well.
I’m taking Twin1 to see Swarthmore and Haverford on Sunday/Monday. Our first college visit! I’ll report back after the trip!

The best preparation for the SAT days before the test is a good night of sleep, or a few.

I agree lake42ks. DS is not one to go to bed before 12 but I will insist tonite. He just finished up his exams and we are awaiting the results (they will be posted online)to see how he did this semester. He had split grades (A one quarter, B other quarter) in three classes so these exams will determine if he gets the A or the B. I am so glad that this semester is done and he at least has the weekend OFF (well, he has the SAT on Saturday but no homework for the first time all year).

Hi everyone! Good luck to all the testers tomorrow! seiclan - I hope the grades that are walking a tightrope lean over toward the A side.

fignewton - love the screen name!

hmmmm. D will leave a school performance tonight at 10:30pm for a half hour drive home. So much for a full night’s sleep before the SATs. She will have to leave the house at 7 am tomorrow to make it to the test on time. Maybe I can transport her directly from the door into bed (not likely).

Because my daughter has time and a half, the already grueling 4 hours is now 6 hours for her. Definitely more of an endurance test than an aptitude test IMHO!

Just popping on here, but as a student who took the SAT last year, I would def. say to get to the site more than 10 minutes in advance. By the time I got there (10 minute early), the line for entrance was quite long, and I had to wait a while to get to my room –> ended up getting out later.

Good luck to all the test takers tomorrow! DS12 will take it in March for the first time. I’ll be thinking of all of you on Sat!

amtc, my D is in the same boat-- not taking SATs till March, but if you have any endurance tips, please let me know! I’m trying to figure how to keep her properly nourished through all those hours! (the whole fact of the ‘experimental section’ makes me mad! For pity’s sake these kids have enough to worry about without being lab rats for College Board.)

Adding my wishes for Good-Luck to all of tomorrow’s SAT takers. My S is waiting for the March test for his retake.

mihcal1 -
I think that is absolutely true. I remember being surprised at some of the high “averages” on subject tests when I went through this with S1.

Just popping on again to offer advice for the first time takers, TAKE A PROTEIN! You will have a small break (@10 mins.) and the protein will help you keep your focus. Peanut butter crackers or pepperoni crackers worked great for me.

Aaaggh, several of D’s teachers have not been keeping the grades current, so now with finals next week, she finds herself on the border of A/B in a couple of classes. Of course, it’s her responsibility, but it seems so unfair. I’m hoping she nails her finals and tips over to the A side…trying to keep quiet, and just be supportive…

If anyone should remember, D2 had a stomach problem last Nov when she took SAT for the first time. Well, she is taking it again tomorrow. Guess what happened? I was on a business trip, but she came down with a full stomach virus 2 days ago(throwing up every hour, going to the bathroom, not even able to keep liquid down). H was willing to let it take its natural course. As we are in Mexico, I figured it had to be a fairly common occurance, so they must have a quick cure. I made H call a doctor on Wed. The doctor came to our place, gave D2 a shot, 6 different meds. She is now completely fine, except still kind of weak. She plans on taking the test tomorrow.

Would it be possible for her to cancel her scores if she should feel badly during the test? What are the rules?

Good luck to everyone.

OMG Oldfort- she can’t get a break! I do believe that you can cancel your score at the test site the day of the test if she is unwell but, she may be ok tomorrow…hoping for the best for your daughter.

I packed my son a planter’s peanut granola bar (protein) and a chocolate bar (energy) for tomorrow and he will bring a water and a sweatshirt. Don’t forget the sweatshirt…you never know how cold the room will be.

Cooking the bacon now for the egg burrito in the am. D is very stressed. She is saying she doesn’t want to go, but she will. She has huge test anxiety. I picked up 2 Balance bars at the market. Figured the protein should help. D said she will be too nervous to snack at the break. Good idea about the water bottle and sweatshirt.
