^^Too funny. In our house, the joke was on me. I reminded my kid to pack new batteries for the calculator, “just in case”. When she went to pack the batteries in her bag she found 9 never-used batteries. They were from previous SATs. All packed dutifully following my suggestion.

Just got home from picking up DS from the SAT’s. He had an extra reading section for the experimental and is praying that it is the one section that he had a very tough time with (and left many blanks). He felt the math was fine. He is hoping for an 800 on the math. I don’t know if he managed that but do hope that he did better on it this time around. If he isn’t happy with his scores, then he will retake on October 1 (for his third and final time).

I am not bringing up the AP Lit vs. Honors English issue today. He earned himself a day to NOT think about school. Tomorrow he will buckle down and study for his AP Chemistry final and we will discuss the pros and cons of taking 6 AP’s senior year and what he really wants to do about it. I appreciate all your insights, opinions and comments and I am feeling like he should make the final decison…but an informed one.

The irony of his taking 13 AP’s in high school is that he will probably not even take the college credit for them. He is thinking about going premed and most medical schools want to see all 4 semesters of chem, 2 of Biology, and 1-2 of Calculus on the college transcript. Hopefully these classes will simply give him a strong base from which he can attain a high science GPA.

toocurious - OMG, just in the nick of time! I hope that this adrenaline rush didn’t throw your son off today. Let us know how it went for him.

Seiclan whatever he chooses good luck! My D is looking at 3 ap classes next year…going to be intense for. She is not back from sat yet, I am nervous about asking her how it went. There was another blow out last night concerning her feeling suffocated and not able to make decisions…more later.

mspearl - last night’s “blow out” was most likely more nerves than actual feelings. My girls (now ages 23 and 21) both had heightened emotional lability (big mood swings) right before the SAT’s, Finals, AP’s, etc. The more we have on our plates, the more difficult it is to focus (and make decisions). Assure her that this will pass.

Too funny mizzbee and igloo.

DS says it was harder than March, but that he was also trying to answer all the questions. Now starts the long wait…

I’m gonna go grill something! Happy weekend everyone.

DS just ran through the house on his way out to enjoy the rest of his day. He said that the math on SAT was much easier than his Barron’s test prep book, and that e thinks he did well on his essay, but that he blanked on a lot of his examples from his test prep. He now hopes that the SAT is his test instead of the ACT, though it will be back to test prep once school is out on Tuesday. He is now off to the first of many graduation open houses.

seiclan –

Double check on the med school requirements. I thought it was that they wanted two semesters of calculus or higher. So, he could take the credit for calc, but would have to continue to take higher math. Same for biology and chemistry. He may prefer to repeat the classes but, based on what his choices in high school (hard classes with the top kids) he may prefer to take the other classes.

On the other hand, I know that GPA is super important for med school, so it may be that repeating is the best thing.

It might also be better to go to higher level classes in chemistry/physics/Biology/math in order to be better at MCAT or does MCAT not require too deep a knowledge?

A friend that just graduated from college (and on his way to med school) was veryglad that he took the calculus and chemistry classes over again in college. It really helped to boost his GPA and put him on a level playing field with the other students. I just wish that our school didn’t make it mandatory that the students take the test if they took the class. I would rather not pay the extra money for credits that will not be used.

As I started to type this post the phone rang. It was my D. She was crying and said she tried to stay with the SAT but was feeling sick and had to hurry out of the room. She threw up in the bushes. She wasn’t feeling well this morning and I thought it was nerves. I guess she was really not feeling well. This was going to be her third and last attempt. She is upset because she tried so hard and was already half way through the test.
Not sure what to do now. Can you cancel or will she have a terrible score?
I guess she will retake again in the Fall. I really wanted her to be done.
She is still pretty confident she wants to stay home and attend the local community college. We want her to have options. She is our homebody plus she has her horse and does not want to leave him. One option we are hoping for is the option of attending the local UC. She needs to get her scores up to have a chance.
This summer she will take a community college class. I am not sure what she will take next fall. She is in a dual enrollment program. She can’t register for her CC classes till mid July. So many classes are already full. It is a job to keep rechecking the schedule to see if spots open up in the classes she wants and needs.

SSeiclan - my daughter just walked in the door from sat. said the reading section was much more difficult this time… she said something about longer passages so maybe that is what your son was speaking about. she said the grammar section/vocabulary was good. when I asked about math she …SMILED. Said it waS A lot better than last time.( as many are aware here, she scores 440 on math and 700 on reading)

All her math prep and studying may have paid off…she joked that she felt pretty confident she broke 500 Lol. Her goal was 520- 80 point increase. I don’t know if that is realistic but we will see in a few weeks. she felt the most confident about her essay and was telling me about all the historical/literature references she used to support her thesis. So, that is exciting. I guess my worst fear is that math does break into low 500’s and reading goes below 700…

but either way I think she is in a much better position for her act when compared to her first time. while her act math score was not stellar, it wasn’t the equivalent to the 440 sat math. she has worked her butt off studying math last few weeks…and this mom has a much better feeling about act.

this week we will definitely continue to focus on math with a practice essay and a few reading questions. I would cry if she could get her math score to a 24 -25. I think with her strength in reading, English and science she has a possibility to reach a composite score of 30. Her goal is 28 for now.

I am also focused on decreasing my hovering -that is one thing she yelled at me about last night. still, while at work this am ( I work 11-7 as a nurse) I texted her a reminder to bring admission ticket which she forgot last time, calculator and pencils. I said goodluck and I love you. her and N. drove the 40 min. to the testing center by themselves…I am trying to back off. It is hard.

ugh, all this pathology.

[Canceling SAT Scores - How to Cancel Scores](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>Canceling Your SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board)

This is if you want to cancel the score - fax them by Wednesday night.

Conngrats to all who are done with the SATs, for now at least. Sorry that your daughter is sick mom60. How horrible! At least there is Oct.

DS said he thought he did well on the math section this time. He thought the CR sections were difficult. He is trying to bring up Math and CR (writing was great his first sitting). I’m suprised that his CR isn’t higher, considering reading/writing are his strengths. I guess we will wait and see and start figuring out real college choices once these scores come in. I’m hoping that we are done with testing. He can retake in Oct (3rd time), but I’d really rather he be done. If he selects a school that requires SAT2 Math, then he will have to take that in the fall. For now, though I think we can just relax! Well, and figure out his scheduling conflicts for next year. Seems you can’t take AP art and Honors Pre-calc at the same time…bummer.

Geogirl: your sons feelings about todays sat mirror my D’s. Math section easier, reading more difficult. I don’t know if this is because about 90% of her studying time since may 7th went into math or the reading section was truly more diffucult than in may.

Either way, I cannot WAIT to see her scores. Without jinxing the whole thing there is a general feeling in our house that her math score may be significantly higher.

She is home. Bummed that she had completed 6 sections before she threw up. She also felt good about how she was doing. She was trying a new testing center on recommendation of her tutor. She liked the quiet location. I just signed her up for Oct at the smaller location.
I printed out the cancel form and we will fax it to the collegeboard. thanks for the link

Mom60, that’s terrible. How awful to get sick like that during a high-stakes test. I hope she feels better soon.

DS did US History and Literature today for Subject tests. He thinks they went well and said the Lit was a breeze. He almost made one serious mistake though. He realized he had bubbled in the wrong subject at the top of the answer sheet – bubbled history instead of lit. Fortunately, he caught it.

Mom60 –

So sorry that your daughter is sick. I hope she’s better soon. I know you are probably both frustrated that it had to happen today.

Mom 60 - I am also sorry for your daughter, especially since she felt she was doing well on the test. Hope she feels better soon.

My D was taking the SAT again to improve her CR scores. She felt like she was doing well until the last reading section. She accidentally skipped a question and then all of her answers were off. She caught her mistake and corrected it, but was shook up for the last writing and math sections. Hopefully she still improved her CR scores.

Mom60: how awful! hope she feels better soon.

Okay… so I have a question about score choice… When you send your SAT scores to colleges do you have to send all your scores… including all SAT II’s, or can you pick and choose to send SAT II’s if you want? I know that all your SAT reasoning scores will go, but not sure about SAT II’s. My S took Lit and History today and he said he didn’t know if he did well on the History… He took APUSH this year and took the AP test in May, but said he had a hard time remembering dates and such on the test today… of course he didn’t listen to me when I told him to study the practice book.URGH… he said he thought the Lit was easy. He just found out he got a 780 on the SAT CR last week and was VERY happy about that. It was the only section he needed to improve so he is done with the SAT… just worried about his History today…
