:
: Hi intouch1520 ! :)

Hi DB! How many of us from 2010 are there on this thread? :D

waving at intouch and DB! :D

intouch, DB, jackief - I’m here too! Still mostly concentrating on 2010 but feeling like putting all this new-found knowledge to use for S’12. He’s taking the SAT on Saturday. Not sure if that’s a solid plan or not, but hoping it can’t truly “hurt”, and there are other “issues”. thanks for all you do on '10.
Intouch - was rooting for my alma mater (UofR) for your D but sounds as though Emerson will be a wonderful place for her. to reinforce her decision… it was snowing, with bits of hail this morning and is now in the 40’s here in Rochester.

I also have a 2010 - a daughter. And a 2017 son, so I guess that I’ll be around for a while!

Thanks, skier29! I can’t believe it was snowing there! That does help…a lot! ;)

My D’12 won’t take the SAT test until next year. Good luck to your son. I heard from other parents of D’10 friends that scores were low even when taken December of junior year so with D’10 we waited until end of jr. year. Who knows if it helped? My D’10 also did better with the ACT test for anyone who’s interested.
My '10 daughter will take both.

Yes, Gourmetmom, you will be here a LONG time! ;)

Welcome to all the parents of '10! I hope you’ll bring those cool color and shape tricks over with you from the '10 thread ;)

I just want to second what MemphisGuy’s advice is - each student is different, you have to find out what works. My D’12 took the PLAN and did very well. I never really thought much about the ACT, but her school requires all the kids to take both. Got my fingers crossed forthe SAT2 Bio this Saturday. Any of your kids subject matter testing this Saturday? If so, good luck! Also, any doctors on this thread – is it still “senioritis” if it starts to present sophomore year?

Hi 2010’ers, I’m here, too!

I love how the discussion there ('10) has turned to “prama” (prom drama) and the like. Things are certainly switching gears there. I took a little mental break before signing on here again.

D12 isn’t taking any tests until fall of junior yr. so she’ll spend the summer on her sport while taking an online class. She’ll also do some SAT prep. This summer, we’ll also visit a few schools since we’re going to be on the east coast. A little early I know, but we have to take advantage of the fact that we’ll be out there.

One of the biggest differences between my 2 girls is that my D’12 is now very interested in researching colleges because of the process we just went through with my D’10. She got to see several colleges and already has pretty strong opinions about what type of school she wants to look for. Not the same with test taking though. She’s not so interested in starting that process early! :(

I’m another one: D-2010 and S-2012

waving to lilmom and psychmom also!

My two are looking for totally different things in colleges, plus their stats are different, don’t think we will have any overlaps :(

ditto here jackief!
Amazing that two completely opposite kids could both be mine.

My girls have similar stats just totally different personalities. :)

Hello again. Wow this is getting to be a big thread already. Guess a lot of us followed the space your babies by two years suggestion. Lol.

Speaking of my 2012 baby, he showed me his proposed Junior year course selection. We’re in for many a “it’s a wild ride tonight”.

Best to you all. Go 2012’ers!

oh gosh, my two are very different in every way, yet they have always been so close…they totally “get” one another. There is a 100% chance they will not end up at the same college, and I’m trying to reframe it as a good thing (that whole separation/growth/individualism idea). Still, it makes me feel bad…for them and for myself.

I’m also the mom of a S -2010 and S-2012. As many of you have said - they are very close academically but at opposite ends of the spectrum personality wise. It was easy to see S-2010 pursuing what his stated major is. S-2012 is harder to fit mentally into a specific major. He’s currently leaning towards chemical engineering with the thought of going on to medical school.

Re: ACT/SAT testing - S-2010 did not take either of these tests until December of Junior year. My plan is to have S-2010 take it around that same time, but perhaps take a review course (S-2010 did not). S-2012 will spend some time this summer practicing for the PSAT - he missed the sophmore year exam due to illness. We live in ACT country and he did very well on the Sophmore year PLAN.

It feels like we just finished wrapping up S1 and now we are starting again with S2. CC has been so helpful in the process!

2010 lurker here. My D1 is 2010 and just made her decision on Monday. Seemed like the 2010ers were so far along on their journey by the time I found them that I didn’t want to butt in! Thought I would check in now for S1 who is 2012 and get on board earlier! After S1, I have one more child after that so he is my halfway point. I have a feeling S1’s process will be much simpler than D1’s!

You should definitely check in over there boiledegg. I don’t think anyone would mind! ;)

Sorry, I got carried away! :)

boiledegg, Oh, you should definitely join in! In fact, in July that thread is going to re-start as the “College Class of 2014.” I am sure you won’t want to miss the Bed, Bath and Beyond discussions! :)
