Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - Original

After this one, the long wait for the scores…

I agree Glido. I figure after this he’ll figure it out. I think he’ll also realize that 4 APs in one year is not really necessary. I’m hoping he’ll cut it back to 3. Unfortunately we are moving, so we don’t know what the new school will have or not have at this point either.

How long does it take to get the scores back?

The scores are available around July 1st by phone at $8 a call (get all your scores on one call). Or, you can wait 2-3 weeks longer when they come in the mail for free.

Picked up my son from the ap World Test at 12:05 pm. He is relieved that it is over and is taking the afternoon off to relax via Xbox/call of duty. He said the test was easy, much easier than the exams he took in the ap World class and much easier than his AP Stats test last week. If I remember correctly, the scores usually are mailed home around the 20th of July. I really don’t see the point of paying to see them any sooner…I mean what would that change or solve since these kids are yet putting them on any college applications.

I don’t think that these tests have dissuaded my son from his 5 AP’s for next year.

One down! My son said the essay’s were easy, much easier than he anticipated, but the multiple choice were hard. I guess we’ll find out in mid July! Glad it’s over though.

I am not much of a cook but I always make scrambled eggs with ham or cheese on the mornings of the big tests. :)

My D was much happier about the World HIstory than the Chem. I’m wondering how she is going to do 4 AP exams next year. The most my other D did was 3…4 seems like soooo many…

My D is in the same boat. Her HS has advanced courses instead of AP’s. She signed up 4 advanced. From what I hear the other courses also step up. Add SAT’s and college visits. It will be a stressful year. She is dropping tennis. That should help.

How D is going to manage next year is a big mystery to me…4 AP’s, 2 honors, with an additional honors/IB second semester. This seems crazy to me, but she’s sure she can do it. Plus the testing, college visits, and her EC’s. I’d like to know when the child is going to sleep!

Mine did 4 AP tests this year. She’s very tired and ready for school to be over.

The killer day was this Monday when she had AP Biology and AP Physics. You can look at the exam schedule for next year and see how bad the testing will be.

On a good note, my daughter got her acceptance letter last night for the state science & math boarding school. So, I guess things are starting to firm up for next fall. Now, it’s time for course selection (again, but at the new school).

^^ Congratulations!

Next year dd is planning on 4 APS. They seem to fall on 4 consecutive days. Perhaps she’ll narrow it to 3, since she’s not sleeping enough NOW. (Well, actually this moment she’s sound asleep since they have a long weekend for Prom. She was in really bad shape last night.)

I’ll offer my congratulations as well!

S finished APUSH and AP Spanish a week ago and took his final for Calculus at the local U this week. I’m wondering how the teachers will keep them engaged for another month. S is definitely enjoying having more down time, but since soccer season is ramping up it fills in some of the free time.

It was good to see him step up to the studying and he felt fairly confident about how the tests went. I’m very curious to see what his scores are on the tests. I find it difficult to judge how his effort will translate into actual scores.

Congratulations on the math and Science school! I hope the course selection goes well!

Thanks, everyone! We’ll get a better feel for course selection at orientation next month, but she may not know her actual courses until move-in day.

The end of the school year is a weird thing, isn’t it? School is out here on the 25th, so there’s really not much happening in AP classes after the exam. In some ways, the actual end of school is anti-climatic.

Although now that AP’s are done my son gets a lighter load (they do fun labs in Stats and watch relevant movies in AP world)in two of his five classes, he still has 5 honors classes to wrap up. I am concerned that he has not put enough time into his honors Anatomy and Physiology “year-long” project, which is due on Friday (presentation, visual display and research paper). I have no idea what he has and has not done for any of his classes and this is a source of anxiety for me (although I intellectually know that it is NOT MY PROBLEM). It’s just that my kid has a history (for the past few years) of starting his summer a few weeks too early (if you get my drift). Sigh. Love the kid on the couch.

Congratulations to your daughter, Mathinokc! My 2012 daughter is going to one in our state next year, too. Frankly, I’m glad they get to set and follow through with the rules next year and not me, because my daughter took a year off to be a Rotary Exchange student in S. America and I have the distinct impression that she has been living like a college student on spring break for the last couple months. I hope she is able to get back to reality and be a student again. Does you daughter take placement tests at orientation? My daughter will test for math, physics and foreign language placement. She’s had precal this year (in Spanish) so I’ll be interested to see whether she tests into calculus or not. I’m looking forward to going to her orientation in June and finding out what classes she will take in the fall. It sounds like they find out that day. Good Luck to you both!

Congratulations! That’s exciting.

Apollo6 –

The way I understand it, she will talk with people from the math, physics, and chemistry departments at orientation to determine correct placement. She’s requesting Linear Algebra for math as well as advanced courses in physics and chemistry. She’s going to start a new foreign language, so there’s no placement required there.

Good luck to your daughter in her placement tests!

DS1 won “best delegate” award in his committee at the Model UN in NYC. Woohoo! Just when I though my smart son would have an undistinguished high school career, at least compared to most of the kids here on CC, he goes and distiguishes himself at Model UN. YEAH!!!

Major congratulations to your son, geogirl1!
