Parents of the HS Class of 2013 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Thanks all! Congrats, terrific4, on the decision!

Congratulations on all the recent decisions! On to the next steps.

ELY-- it’s nice to get off waitlist but I can see how it would really complicate things at this point. Good luck!

Congrats Daisy and Terrific! Ely - keep us posted! Choices are good - but I can imagine it is frustrating to be deciding all over again. Anyone else’s student taking their decision down to the wire? My d was ED so the drama some of her friends are experiencing re: the final decision is kinda fascinating to me! (I honestly think at least one of them is getting a thrill out of keeping the suspense going to the final week…)

Decided! It’s OWU for Smythicson. Everything about the experience has been first rate - the chair of the music department sent a handwritten note after meeting S at the accepted students event and the learning support woman spent nearly an hour with H talking about the ways in which she can help S manage his learning issues.

I also extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you on this thread - it was from the discussion here that I thought to look into OWU for Smythicson. You folks are a wonderful, resourceful, amazing group!

smythic: I’m SO glad one of “our” kids is going to OWU! I suspect it’s a real gem for any student that falls within this thread’s stats, especially those with LDs. My son ultimately ruled it out because he didn’t think he’d love the Midwest winter weather, but I remain really curious about the school. Let us know in the fall how it’s going there for your son! Go…Bishops?!

smythic, I’m very happy for you - OWU is wonderful, and the learning support woman is indeed very helpful. DS ultimately chose differently, but I’m sure your S will be happy there.

@terrific4 I attended UWN for a year back in 2000-01 as a non-traditional student studying Computer Science. I was in the military at the time and transferred to another school after my tour of duty in Pensacola. UWF is a nice school of which I have fond memories. It feels much smaller than it is and the campus is beautiful. Pensacola is o.k as far as Florida towns go. I have never been that enamored of Florida…to flat, commercialized, and plagued by a generic sameness end to end. However, Pensacola Beach and Gulf Breeze are nice distractions. Good luck at UWF and go Argonauts!

USN - thanks for your supportive comments! We don’t know of many people who go to UWF from our area (Jacksonville) as most of its student body is more local to the Pensacola area. However, it seems like the rest of Florida is gradually learning about it; it saw a 133% increase in freshman applications this year, from all around the state. The feedback that I’ve gotten about the school has all been overwhelmingly positive so we’re pretty psyched. Still have some reservations, but I would imagine we would about any school…
For the record, we’re not originally from Florida and are not crazy about it either!

smythic - Congrats on the decision! QWU sounds like a great school!

smythic - sorry, I meant OWU!

It’s official, S is going to James Madison! Go Dukes. Sent deposit in over the weekend, such a relief for all of us. Now onto concerns about orientation, housing, graduation . . .

Congratulations to Smythic on OWU, sounds like your S is in good hands there.

This has been a great thread/community these past months – keep the good news & support coming!

I’m going to do an update to “the list” tonight. Last call for inclusion in this edition!

Ely…My daughter is graduating from James Madison on Saturday. She had a wonderful experience and is very sad to have to leave. Your son made a great choice! I know your son was considering Delaware. As a grauduate of UD, that would have been a great choice too  Best of luck to him!

The 4th edition of “Who’s Kid is Going Where”.

The list is getting longer! New additions are in bold print.

For those that missed it, I am compiling a list via PM so that the thread is not clogged up with long lists. This is where each child has decided to attend - not all acceptances. I went back several pages in addition to the PMs sent. I apologize if I missed anyone. Send me a PM if you’d like me to add your child on the next list. I’ll wait until a have a handful before adding on.

Sorry eastcoast101 on the format mishap - I’ll fix it next go round.

Congrats to you, too, Ely! And thanks to everyone for the good wishes.

I hope we’re all this happy at this time next year!

At some point I am actually going to sit down and try to calculate how much money was spent just getting to the decision  Haven’t even started paying for college yet. I think it will be interesting… starting way back with the SAT/ACT test costs and prep courses ! Not to mention those #@$#%$^ annoying fees to send test scores everywhere.

Happy to report that Wheaton came through with merit $, so we sent in the enrollment form tonight! And the news gets even better - his sister has decided on Wellesley, so they will be less than an hour apart. We’ll be racking up the frequent flyer miles going from LA to Boston, but I couldn’t be prouder!

Congrats on Wellesley and Wheaton for your twins, pkdof13, great choices!
You could also fly into Providence, rent a car, drive to Norton (16 miles) then drive to Wellesley.
We just saw our S perform in a concert last week at Wheaton, which was a first for us.

Congrats on all the latest decisions! See you all at Bed, Bath & Beyond???

^Yes, I’ve been squirreling away those BBB coupons.

Double congratulations to pkdof13! Any chance their college colors are the same & you can just get shirts that sport a big “W” ?

Thank you all for your good wishes & to mamaduck for putting together that impressive list.

BlueHen, thank you–you certainly understand the dilemma my S had. Any advice about Freshman housing ?
