Thanks everyone for all the advice. I’ll definitely find a time when I can sit down with at least my father this week and talk to him about Allegheny. They’re having a sneak preview the next few weekends, so I want to hit the pedal to the metal and get out there! I did a powerpoint presentation a few years ago to get him to take us skiing over winter vacation and it worked. Perhaps another powerpoint is in store? ;)

You guys are a hoot!!! Perhaps too many drinks with those pretty little umbrellas??? LOL!!

Was told by DS that he is one of the few remaining students who haven’t made a decision about a college yet! Of course, he isn’t bothered by it so why should we? He has about 53 days left as a high school student while I have 55 days left (and I don’t know which one of us is more excited). :)

So I am not good at remembering everyone’s order, so I have a cart with some beer, wine, champagne and a pitcher of Margaritas. Flag me down if you are ready for a refill. I also have the little umbrellas.

Anybody going to Cal Day on 4/20? Or the Orange County reception on 4/14?

Happy Opening Day!!

I don’t know what y’all are talking about. My CC user name is perfectly representative and not misleading in the least.

If I wasn’t dadotwoboys I could have been SomeOldGuy. Of course, I could have been a doctor if it wasn’t for the blood … and science.

I left for the F I R S T robotics competition before page 1509. Thanks everyone for the poetic love while I was offline. DS’s team and bot did admirably; the team earned a third (engineering design related) award for the season.

Returned on Sunday to see that the Cruise had left the dock. I hopped a dinghy and have been pathetically rowing and reading, reading and rowing, waving arms hoping y’all would slow down. Forgot my flair gun. Darn. Just now caught up. Can someone toss me a boarding ladder over the side? I am wet, tired, have salt spray in my hair, and I think a large fish just jumped in behind me. It might have teeth. YDS, I also have large quantities of donuts beside me. :D

LittleGenie/Mom2k2d: St John’s Wood, grades 1-2.
Confetti: {{{Waving hello!}}}…What??? Wait…there are $100 bill trees??? Should I turn the dinghy around?

Anouilh: As I was going through my alphabet to rhyme “five flights up,” well, I never got past C. I simply could not pass that opportunity! Some things just fit like a…glove.

I am glad my DH is short (even in cowboy boots). DS will NOT be playing college bball. Yeah for a gutsy kid and great surgeons!

Belated Welcome to all those who just joined us! Please stay…you arrived just in time to spend four years (of college) together! Congrats and welcome also to ivanlucy and muf123! As GSharp mentioned, brace yourself if you have not yet met RISD’s mascot. Lots of creativity at that school! :D

TVenee/jym (Thx for that green square!): I think I coined Redirect months ago (never had seen your interesting link), but someone else can claim it if my memory is faulty. My memory is often faulty these days as I drag my carcass off the college app battlefield (nice imagery from TVenee!).

Ama/tx5: Make sure the deck has high railings before you don the roller skates.

YDS: Glad your greenbelt is safer than ours. {Critter, close your eyes.} Ours has coyotes that eat small dogs.

Muf: Chocolate bunny ears. Does anyone here NOT eat the ears first?

I find it interesting how fast one sometimes falls out of love with a college that WLs or Redirects a beloved child.

Extra uber-ihugs to anyone without at least one acceptance yet. The Prince will arrive; he’s just prepping the white horse before he makes an enthusiastic entrance. I also just looked at the list of late app colleges; D r e w is on it, among other excellent schools.

Re names, I may not be female, but I am nevertheless quite tougy.

Ask anybody.

Oh, and speaking of Drew, another nice college in that neck of the woods that I believe is still taking apps is FDU. That campus is an absolute knock-out, and the creative writing dept and some of the pre-prof programs are quite good. Also, there’s an honors college (and, of course, the Gloria Vanderbilt mansion). Good weather, reasonable tuition, merit scholarships, proximity (and a train) to NYC. A lot going for it, IMHO.

Mtnest: my DD is also not decided…she’s thinking of doing the WL’s (DDHM—so, she’s not yet out of love)… she’s trying hard to convince herself to like one of the one’s that has “liked” her…but, she still wants to see if the WL moves…it’s gonna be a long spring!!

I certainly hope we all stay together on this thread once the kids are off to college! No doubt we will have many things to talk about and share.

The kids did narrow things down a bit, but it still requires travel. My thread on D’s choices in the college search forum has been hot (she’s the high stats kid with high ranked schools), while my thread on S’s choices not so much. Please hop over there if you might like to weigh in.

I envy those of you serving, it is a bit nerve wracking trying to figure this all out. So I’ll take a spicy Grey Goose Bloody Mary, thank you very much.

I spent my college summers working in far northern Wisconsin and spent a fair amount of time at pubs chatting with the locals. I went to a university where there were really no bars. I hope that son finds a fun hangout place where everybody knows his name and they’re always glad he came. Anyone agree?

…and speaking of names - Kennedy is not my name or my DD name - and no political affiliations…

Anyway - we are down to the final two. DD visiting WashU next week and UChicago after that. The self-imposed deadline for us (her) is April 19th.

Good luck to everyone who is still on SS Indecision! Enjoy the pampering by our fellow (decided) parents.

Finally got the FA package from S2’s chosen school. Didn’t get any more grants -but did qualify for subsidized Stafford and Perkins loans, and work-study. With the scholarship he already received, we can swing it. They got us down to the EFC without parent loans, so I’m happy.

That’s great, megpmom!

Ditto to whatever Confetti says later tonight! :)

Great news megsmom on making #1 work!

DDHM- Kids go to American school in St. Johns wood? I lived in Swiss Cottage ages ago nearby. LittleGenie, you in London?

Someoldguy-LOL-Single or Daft!

YDS- Love the greenbelt story! Mine put a spoon in the microwave tonight with her pasta… so very independent of her to make her own dinner, don’t you think?

Kennedy-Did you say DD is going on her visits alone like TV’s S? Are you in the windy city 4/10-11 by any chance?

Welcome newbies!

I just texted someone sympathy for the redirect…they replied…what? LOL too much time mulling over our ikids here:)

SSindecision: Glad we are all staying aboard regardless of which end we are on. I am starting to have roommate, dorm, etc…questions forming before D has decided where she will land. yikes!

I love the frenzy of possibilities on this thread… there’s real joy here.

The final tally for us is 5 acceptances, 4 waitlists, and 2 redirects. My niece has chosen to stay on 3 waitlists and the follow-up pitches to admins and coaches have been mailed. We’ve written to 3 of the accepted schools to appeal the financial aid awards and we’re waiting for their response. So, many doors remain open but, at this point, all that can be done has been done.

And she’s come to terms with the two options she can definitely afford and is starting to get excited. Depending on the results of the appeal, we’ll visit a few schools, make a decision, and try not to think of the waitlists.

drmom123 - One of my niece’s schools is M t H o l yo k e. Is that one of your daughter’s as well?

Anyone have a child who attended Goucher, Clark, Muhlenberg or Wheaton? Any thoughts on the schools?

Whew! I am so exhausted from bar tending that I’ve left the SS Indecision for a real vacation…last spring break with DS (I checked his college schedule, and his spring breaks do not overlap with his sibs’)–since he’s the oldest, feels like the last spring break when our family will be “whole.” Sorry to be maudlin…maybe I’d better reboard and have a few drinks myself. Almost wish we still had decisions to make so I could focus on that! Sniff, sniff. ;)

Re: user names… Mine is a nod to the location of High School Musical, and I’m not even a big fan! Someone else active on our thread uses my real last name (and it’s not SomeOldGuy); I always find it a bit startling until I realize folks responding are not talking to me…

Usernames: I used a random word generator and kept generating words until I found one I liked. This word suits me for another reason as well - but I don’t want to give away too much. :)

I am firmly planted on the SS Indecision, I’m with GreekMana’s S still doing visits til April 27!

SS Indecision, wait for me!!! Just got the last decision today, DS accepted to Georgetown. We will be on board for a while. DRINK, please!!!

By the way I have spent so much time on cc lately that i was able to teach our college advisor something new: the “tufts syndrome”. I don’t know if that is good or bad;)

Make room for me on the SS Indecision! We will be visiting the last school on April 19 so we will be on board for most of April.

Kelbee–it’s Bryn Mawr— all but one of the WL is coed…i think that is what is making her want to stay on the WL…but I know that Bryn Mawr’s campus is pretty “coed” during the day and inside the classrooms…so, I dont actually think she will have a problem…but, she does not know that! I loved the campus and the atmosphere…
