Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Good morning America how are you?
Don’t you know me I’m your native son…
you’ll be gone 500 miles when the day is done.

Enjoy your cruise today!

It’s about time we kicked off the on-board entertainment on this cruise. I’ll let y’all decide whether this makes you need to drink more.

[The Muppets: Bohemian Rhapsody - YouTube](<a href=“Bohemian Rhapsody | Muppet Music Video | The Muppets - YouTube”>Bohemian Rhapsody | Muppet Music Video | The Muppets - YouTube)

Morning all. Mimosa’s anyone? Bloody Mary?

We’re finding that some schools make it REALLY hard to turn them down. D2 & I sat down last night to do what I hoped was the final college clean up: accept the scholarship offer, register for orientation, turn down the 4 places that she’s not going to. Only 1 had a way to turn them down (and we scoured web pages.) I know at least 2 of them have wait lists, and I don’t feel good about letting them hang to dry.

TX5: D2 also thinks she’s fulfilled her foreign language requirements; she spent some time last night looking at the placement test info and it looks like 5 years of a foreign language meets the requirement if you take a written test; add in the AP test and she should get credit as well.

Caps & gowns get picked up today :))))))

Our kids will have early move-in as well–the negative of that is there typically aren’t hordes of big, strong football players to help you haul the stuff :D. Hoping for 1st floor rooms!

Can’t even figure out how to say no, eh?

I guess there’s a reason the Admissions Problems “amoeba” refers to this as “yielding season.”

http://admissionsproblems.■■■■■■■■■■/

For those with marching band early arrivals - at least at Pitt, members of the band frats offer to help move in. Always nice to move in when it is so quiet, I haven’t needed to get help.

SomeOldGuy: I love the admissions problems blog :)

I love the admissions problem blog, too. Not at all happy with how few entries there have been lately!

For those still ‘asea’ on Indecision, you may want to check out the priority list that can be found on the NU v Duke v WUSL etc thread over at the Northwestern forum. I found it immensely… uh…illustrative.

It’s what kids want!

Yeesh, Tougis. And curses to CC for not allowing me to post my favorite face palm GIF. The current administration at Duke has worked to tamp down the “work hard/play hard” culture, but I’ve already warned Devil Child to be on the lookout for overprivileged meatheads. (In fact, it’s the reason I pushed back hard on whether that was really his ED choice.)

Thanks OldDude for reminding us all on the late great Freddie’s incredible talent. The entire cast of the Muppets couldn’t match his range…and could barely compete with his showmanship! Good try, though.

Others would argue that, in full flight, Freddie was a bit more cartoonish than the Muppets, too, but I still have a soft spot for Queen. The closest modern equivalent is Muse when they turn it up to about thirteen (if Spinal Tap goes to eleven).

I agree that Muse knows how to write music too. I also agree that Freddie’s voice was more to my taste than his stage outfits. I would rather have his singing ability than his wardrobe. :)

Good morning! I have Champagne, Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s on my cart this morning for anyone who might need one. I also have coffee and some juice my husband made in his JacklaLane juicer if you want to be healthy (I think there is Kale, beets, cucumber, apple, oranges, blueberries, not sure what else). Thanks for the music Haystack and Someoldguy!

In AP English they have a wall where everyone writes where they have been accepted and then they circle when they have decided. So if hitting the “Intent to Register” wasn’t official enough, DS has now circled his choice on the wall. All is well.

tougis - checked out that thread on the NU board, OMG! And I am totally out of touch - what does “throw down” even mean???

DDHM!!! My FAVORITE drink is Kahlua and Cream!! Not a black Russian, not a white Russian…JUST Kahlua and cream!!

SomeOldGuy and momof zag – our newest car is a 2003; the others are 2002, 2000 and 1993 (DD’s car after Grandma got a new one)…and we are hoping they last a LOT longer, with DD’17 still yet to get thru hs and college  We get really happy when they pass inspection, too, DDHM. In our state our plates are good for 2 years, so we only worry about it every two years. At some age they don’t have to pass emissions anymore, which can be expensive to fix.

Pouncecat2 – I agree with what everyone has said, but perhaps I would confirm everything in writing, via email, so once it’s all set for the gap year you have it in writing, so no one forgets. Also, if FA/scholarships are included, ensure they can still be used for freshman year. I don’t think you have to pay tuition during a gap year.

SomeOldGuy – Love Queen and LOVE Muse!!!

Lisa, I’m guessing ‘to throw down’ means to pour beer (or other alcoholic bev) down one’s gullet until one is unable to recognize the difference between the word ‘Duke’ and the word ‘puke’.

Charming…

Just more confirmation that the difference between the students (and education quality) at NU when compared to U Wisconsin, U MN, even U Iowa; is not as great as students and parents think it is. (I say this as a proud but realistic/pragmatic NU grad).

In my day, to throw down meant to fight. I’m happy to see on urbandictionary.com that that’s still the no. 1 definition. But I don’t think Joe College was talking about fighting. Alternate definititions: contribute to the pot for pot; drink a lot; to have sex with, uh, gusto.

You’re welcome. :D
