As for the bedbugs, all I can say is ‘Ewww!’ Although it does make me feel a little better about our State U choice. Unless those Harvard bedbugs can recite the Iliad in ancient Greek…

Bed bugs totally freak me out! If they ever got into our home, I’m not sure how we would ever get them out! Eeeeewwwwww!!! U Miami seems clean. I hope U Rochester is also clean. Ugh.

Were they from Harvard?

Oh my! On the up side, I received a “raffle prize” at work on “clean out the merchandise sample closet day” that included two cans of bed bug spray along with assorted cleaning supplies. I’ll have to sneak those in the car and keep my eyes peeled.

Speaking of the car - I’m doing a mental “tennis-match-watching” going back and forth like this:

pile of college stuff . . . . small car
growing pile of college stuff . . . . small car
pile of college stuff that is still missing things . . . . small car - not getting bigger

Muf123, I am also interested in what school’s crew camp those bed bugs and your son attended. Please share!

Viewer, I do know that the crew camp kids do not stay in the freshman dorms so maybe you can relax a little, but then again…if bed bugs are in one dorm, can they be far from being everywhere!?! I’m hoping those bed bugs were from Yale. ;)

Tougis, I think you should list launch date as earlier–that’s what I did. I think of launch date as the day they blast off from the launching pad.

YDS, DS and GF are planning to “break up.” I am also a little sad as I really like her, so I know why you feel a little relieved.

Wondering why I encouraged DS to do the prefreshman camping trip program–assembling the gear is a hassle…only to lose him a week earlier…

Ds got his housing assignment. Woohoooo!

Bedbugs? Do we really need to worry about them? I did see mattress covers in BB&B but figured they were capitalizing on hysteria.

And I can’t imagine that a spray will do anything. I know people who have had to move out of their homes temporarily to treat bedbugs. Yuck.

D1 has her dorm but is still waiting for her room and roommate assignment. Not sure what the hold-up is…

I’ll do as you suggested, EastGrad. Thanks.

I think bed bugs are a problem at colleges. I’m not saying all colleges have bedbugs but think about it. If hotels have problems why wouldn’t dorms? Some colleges even have a checklist on the housing site of what the students need to do if they have bedbugs. I know Georgia Tech has a checklist.

I’d recommend that everyone do a search of the college your kid is attending with the word bedbugs. That way if your college has a checklist you will know what your student should do if they end up with bedbugs. You do not want to end up with bedbugs in your home.

Well thanks to MichiganGeorgia’s suggestion I googled S college and the word “bedbugs.”. The good news is there was absolutely no mention or connection.

The bad news is, the first hit was several awful TripAdvisor reviews of the hotel I’d booked for parents weekend!! No wonder they still had rooms available after all the upperclass families secured rooms :(

Oh, no, surf!

Surfcity, what a lucky discovery. That seems like an easy choice to me. I’d happily pay an extra $50-100 for a few nights to avoid extermination costs later!! (Feeling itchy since we began this discussion!)

Thank you surfcity! You just reminded me that I need to cancel hotel reservations for college drop off and parents weekend since all that will be delayed for a year!

Wait momofzag: maybe I’ll take your parents reservation if it’s a different hotel! :)

Bedbugs! Another thing to worry about!

Things are getting kinda crazy here! We closed on the sale of our house on Tuesday, although we’re leasing back for another week until S2 finishes the run of the show that he is currently performing in. H is already in London, so S2 and I are co-existing in the house together. He claims that he is an expert at “fouling the nest” - and I have to laugh. He’s honestly the easiest kid. His attempts to be “mouthy” are just kinda cute. My only complaint about him is that he leaves empty soda cans all over the house. I really hope his roommate is not a neat freak.

Ds is leaving town with his dad and brother. I’m so pleased to be alone in this house!!! I’m going to start building what we over in the 2010 thread called dorm mountain. Ds thinks he’s taking at least 10 pairs of shoes, including two boots, and I want him to visualize how much he’s talking about!

Meanwhile, we got the Target debit card for free shipping. I’ll also be “shopping” in their absence for what he needs, and then he can vote up or down what I picked.

My S also wants to take too much, mostly books and video games. I let him fill a box that we will leave with Grandma and once he moves in, if he thinks he has room for it, she can ship it to him. S2’s issue is that, if he doesn’t take it to college, he won’t see it again for 3 years and he has a very emotional attachment to his things. Luckily, I was able to get him to part with his beloved stuffed animals. We took 3 garbage bags full to the fire department for them to give to kids after fires and other disasters.

I think because we live with in 45 minutes of campus DS really hasn’t packed yet. I’ve told him that I want to drop almost everything off with him next Thursday… I’m not sure it’s sunk in yet. I have told him that if he forgets stuff he will have to walk all the way across campus stand on North Avenue and my husband will drive by on his way to work and dump the stuff off with him. lol. Seriously though the dorms at GT are so small he really can’t take a lot of stuff.

The other issue to me is that his roomie wants all the usual dorm stuff that we’re willing to forgo … fridge, microwave, printer. We agreed to buy/rent a fridge but said the rest of that is on the roomie. Ds actually is a minimalist, except when it comes to clothes.
