Congratulations SteveMA!
GreekMana: I would also wait to send…

DD also getting stressed and sick. We go visit (I hope) the last college on her “want/wish” list. We had a long talk last night about the possiblilyt of disappointment, taking risks and living with choices…having to make a choice…not having everything you want, and still being able to have a good life. I think she began to get it. But, it did not make her feel less stressed…

I am thankful that I have worked at large universities for most of my life. I have meet all kinds of people very good in their respective fields…student affairs professionals; IT professionals; accountants; auditors; faculty members in quant fields; faculty members in English; faculty members in Econ; etc; etc. The variances in their backgrounds are stunning. Some are Ivy League grads, many are Big 10 school grads, some have degrees in English but are IT managers. The top researcher in my college has his PhD from a program no where near the top 25.

My S has gotten to know some of these folks. It has helped ease the pressure. He has been given lots of advice by this very successful folks. Most just say, go where you will be happy.

This week, my D has received a number of emails offering free applications and fast decisions. Are others seeing these? They are having an effect - my D is thinking about applying to schools she hadn’t really been seriously considering before. Having a fast decision and having an acceptance in hand early is appealing to her.

Congrats to your S SteveMA. Yes, it’s always great for the OFFICIAL decision to arrive no matter how certain things may seem.

I guess I’m grateful for my son’s blissful ignorance at this point…lol. He has no idea of prestige or rankings when it comes to colleges. He just knows about safety, match, and reach. When he saw that he has really good chances at most of his schools, he relaxed a great deal. So everything is kinda ok around here right now. I think the problem will be with me when it’s time to make a deposit, so make sure to keep a spot in the basement for me come April :)

Sacchi - my son is receiving a ton of those. The main thing that kept me from telling him about them is the expense of still having to send test scores. Also, most of those schools aren’t on his list for a reason.

Steve Congradts!!!
Must feel Great:). And your D should know soon. Right?
What a relief you must be feeling.
Even if he chooses another school. The stress of the first is Over:)

D has gotten quite a few of those emails. If the name on the email doesn’t match one of the 8 on her list, then she has no interest. Delete, delete, delete.

Ama308–the GC still has not sent transcripts. The only reason he has this one is because they took the PDF I sent them…still waiting for DD and all of the rest of his :D.

Congrats, SteveMA! What a great moment to receive that first acceptance! I think it will be a while before my daughter gets an acceptance.

I can say that I noticed a difference in my D’s demeanor this afternoon. I picked her up to go get food and be back at school before call time. She was definitely “lighter” than in the past month. This is even before starting her medicines. It has to be because she knows the end is almost here! She will have to have some interaction with evil man because she still wants to go to ThesCon but no classes and no more shows! Woo Hoo!!

ugadog99 - that is great news about D. I am glad she can start enjoying her senior year now that the maniac is out of the picture.

Lots of emails and mail, but it is the phone calls that are driving me crazy. I hate unsolicited phone calls. I just get comfortable in the recliner with a beverage, a computer beside me and a cat purring on my lap. then the Phone rings. “Hello, is S there.” No, he is not. “Can I speak to his parents or a legal guardian.” This is his mom. "“This is XYZ University…”

It is usually a school I have never heard of. The other day it was from a school in Nashville, that I never knew existed. It is just a few miles from where I use to work. Could have fooled me that there was a College there.

D’13 has been getting quite a few of those please apply we will waive the fee letters also. Since I’m currently her secretary, I prescreen them for suitabilty. Unforunately they never fit. One, Washington & Lee, looked really good, though small, until I noticed they didn’t offer astronomy at all. They even stated they are giving out 44 full rides (about 10% of the incoming class). Anyone else interested?

I pretty much don’t answer if I don’t recognize the number. I’ve run a few numbers in a reverse phone number lookup thing and find that most are pretty much college telemarketers. They’re not really calling from the college but for the college and never leave a message. The only ones that leave messages are actually calling from the school and are ones my son has contacted.

Spackler - if you’re just experience “a little” frustration, I’d say you’re doing great! If you’re of legal dinking age, welcome to “Wine Wednesday”. We also have non-alcoholic beverages available Feel free to pour a drink and vent.

Sparkler… Welcome
Vent away…we are great listeners and their is great advise, sympathy and most important laughter ( ok… A few drinks too :)

Steve… Sounds like its in the bag… Have a drink and relax… They called you :)

I’m eating a pint of Pistachio ice cream ( for my sugar craving)… Laying on a heated mattress pad ( for my aching muscles)…HEAVEN…
No kid drama tonight…Bliss
