@momincypress That is great news! It’s amazing what an acceptance can do to their outlook and self esteem. I’ve also just been a lurker, as there has been nothing to tell.
DS is still waiting for either an acceptance/denial from his first choice flagship state school. He was on the waitlist and had to send in 7th semester grades, which he did 2 weeks ago. The waiting is hard.
@kidzcatz Are you absolutely sure it’s the car? Or do you think he really isn’t ready to leave home and just doesn’t want to say that?
@conmama Yes, I think he is worried about leaving the familiar. I’m fine with the decision. I just wish he’d decided earlier that the CC was good enough. At first he refused to consider it, as it is looked down on by kids at his high school, where the vast majority of students are wealthier than we are and go away to 4-year schools.
@kidzncatz I think it’s great that your son is feels comfortable to recognize what is really wants to do right now, and can put blinders on to what other’s may think. I believe that is a great hallmark of maturity. My son has several options. One is if he doesn’t get accepted to Plan A or Plan B, then he will live at home and go to the state flagship local campus and transfer when he can. I told him that he can live on campus in very nice dorms, but he wants to just stay at home. I think part of it he’s just not ready to leave the nest unless it’s with the comfort of knowing lots of people, which he would on the state flagship campus.
It is nice to finally check in here and see posts from students with wonderful results! Congratulations! I give you credit for being able to survive CC with your sanity intact! Those are very good lists of schools-well done!
My daughter is doing well! It seems like your kids are as well. @njmom2011 any news? The waiting really is the hardest part.
Pepper03 I thought you for got us…hope your D is having fun in her last semester of school.
D has hit Senorititis Hard but really I think they deserve it …
She down to 4 but I believe that her number1 hasn’t changed since her visit in her Junior year… It’s not a top 20 school but it is the 1 department in the US for what she hopes to pursue. She still over the moon on being accepted and it came with some$$.
S1 got his first acceptance this week - Vermont! Truly a safety school, as it doesn’t have either of the sports he wants to spectate or play (football & swimming), but it does have an outdoor major for him.
Still waiting on Ithaca, which is now #1. We’re cautiously optimistic, as Naviance shows UVM has tougher stats than Ithaca and he has been sending lots of emails to various people since we visited last month, including swim coach, to demonstrate interest. The killer is Ithaca sends their acceptances out via snail mail, not the electronic portal.
No I could never forget you! I love this thread-my CC time has been very limited lately!
Her semester just ended last week-snow days-what a disaster it was but it is over! No top 20 schools here either-but great schools with the programs she wants being strong-she is going to have lots of good options!
That is great about UVM! That is not an easy admit that is a very good sign for your son!
Thanks for the kind words. He’s such a smart kid but has been a bit lost at his big public high school, as he is very quiet and not a trouble maker, so his grades have been all over the place. (Alphabet soup is the phrase I use). This year has been tough, but he’s learning to advocate for himself and follow his gut. For 2 years he said engineering was his desired major because most of his friends wanted it and he knew post-graduation employment prospects, as well as salary were good. We had a heart-to-heart in December and he admitted he was realizing it was not a good fit.
Given he would swim at Ithaca, the coach would be his surrogate mom and keep tabs on his classes, which would be great. He’s also had some shoulder issues Junior year, that having the strong PT group on site would keep it in shape.
Just playing the waiting game.
D1 is graduating this year and just found out the company she interned with last summer and has worked 10 hours/week during the school year is going to make her an offer. I should have played powerball this week!
She was accepted to Washington State University, her #2 choice.
We are still waiting on:
University of Washington, Seattle (#1 choice)
University of Colorado, Boulder
University of California, San Diego
University of Idaho
Oregon State University
I am really, really hating these late admission notification dates. It’s hard to make plans when you have to wait almost until the last minute.
@LadyArwyn, congrats to your daughter for the acceptance to #2. Do the schools have a firm notification date? I ask because even though one school said the notification date is April 1, D heard from them last week. Good luck!
FWIW, we’re still doing all the visits in April. The last visit is on April 27th!
