@Mom24boys… praying for your family.
Graduation Day! Then a whopping 2 day summer before we head out to USAFA. Well, I guess it’s actually a 6 day summer, as the “fun” doesn’t begin until next Thurs, The nights remaining under our roof are what I am counting…3 is such a puny number.
On the other hand, he’s getting to chase his dream. This momma is trying to step aside gracefully. Yeah…it ain’t pretty!
Congratulations @shellz! Enjoy those precious three days.
@shellz I’m both glad and sad for you all. One of the cadets I went to encampment with is also entering… I hope she does alright, and your son.
I’m sure you’ll all be glad to know that I have committed to glider encampment! And the powered plane has broken. AGAIN. It’s not a big fix, just the magnetic compass needs more fluid, but it’s still got to go into maintenance AGAIN. At this rate I’ll be lucky to solo this summer, let alone get my license. Whatever, I just have to roll with it, it won’t do any good to gripe about. (There, I’m done. Really.)
That’s a sign you made the right choice, @albert69 – enjoy your glider encampment!
My daughter is tutoring pre-calc this summer for a high school summer program, and taking a fitness class in preparation for NJROTC. So, she’s keeping busy. Her university orientation is two days in early July.
However, the high school program ends in early August, and college doesn’t start until late September, so we have a full six weeks to fill. It doesn’t take six weeks to pack for a move to a dorm. This is going to be a loooong summer.
@LadyArwyn Enjoy the time with your D. I recall the same dilemma with my DD. Her school didn’t start until late Sept as well, and all her friends were starting in Aug. It was a long summer! In hindsight, it was the last real summer she was home, so I wish we had made more of it…a girls trip maybe.
We leave tomorrow for USAFA, and if I thought it would help, I’d sell my left kidney for another week. My “allergies” are in full swing, and the teary eyes and sniffling seem to crop up at the darnedest times.
Good luck to all as they dive into summer jobs/internships/Netflix marathons. See y’all in a week!
My girlfriend soloed today! Yay!
Now, if my plane would just get fixed maybe I could too… :-?
Dear parents of DC15s: I’m confused about the timing for submitting Early Action college applications, FAFSA, and the Financial Aid applications. Does the college app get submitted for the Early Action deadline and then the FAFSA follows January 1 of the new year? A few of the schools on my D16’s list have asked for the admissions application as early as mid-July! What do I need to know about this type of situation? Thanks
EA application due dates vary according to the school. If a school accepts an application in July, it is not a common app school ( there are schools, however, that allow you to apply using both the common app and the school’s app). The CSS Profile comes out in October, and the FAFSA comes out January 1. You will fill out your EA applications before the FAFSA comes out, and probably/possibly/maybe before the CSS Profile comes out. Not all schools are profile schools. It is very important to pay close attention to dates ( as you are doing ). Good Luck!!
D is watching 22 videos and taking quizzes! These videos need to be watched before orientation and have to do with scheduling, requirements, AP credit, etc.
Congrats to your GF Albert!
Thanks. The CA school apps will be submitted in August, and the non-CAs will be submitted mid-July throuh October. For some reason I was thinking that the FAFSA and financial aid app are part of the admissions app (like sending test scores), but they’re really not, are they. (She has no CSS Profile schools on her list.)
My daughter heard back from several schools before we filled out the FAFSA.
@dyiu13, some of the schools D applied to had her file the CSS profile as early as November I think. (BC was one, and there may have been another.) Each school will have deadlines on their websites for all of that stuff.
My D heard back from all of her EA schools before we had to submit either the CSS or the FAFSA. That does not mean the money part is set, it just means they are or are not accepted. Knowing that there were some schools that said yes before Christmas break was a good feeling.
My son applied ED to one school and EA to several others.
The apps were due early November, and all were CSS Profile so we submitted at that time.
I would say that you should check each school’s website carefully - he even had one school that wanted an online NPC filled out, and then the college emailed us the FA estimate results.
If they say they want applications in mid-July, they should also say when they want FAFSA. It is rare to want FAFSA before February 1st of the year attending college, because the W2 forms are not out before then.
I suspect that perhaps your child is applying for special programs/scholarships, at least some of which are not based on financial need.
Graduation is tonight!! (finally) DD15 has been “done” mentally since the AP exams…but she kept up her grades as if you have >90 in a class you don’t have to take the final.
Ok, so the plane is fixed, but now “my” car broke. Arrgh!!!
Four days until graduation…slow-roasting one last batch of pork for BBQ, making cake for 75 tomorrow…but the house is clean enough, so that’s something. We took DH to see “Inside Out” last night, as a Father’s Day treat. Maybe not the best choice for someone feeling a little sad so see DS’s high school days end. We were talking about one particularly poignant scene afterward, and I was trying to explain why this one might be more moving for parents (“this is why we take so many pictures”) when I started crying again! The poor kids didn’t know what to make of it, LOL. I had to go to bed early to recover. Missed the Northern Lights last night as a result, ah well.
It’s fun seeing most people here so deep in their summer plans already. We’ll get there soon!
Re: EA / ED financial timeline. Each school is very different. We actually had one school DC didn’t apply to early even though he had his app ready to go because hubby couldn’t get the finances together that quickly. Some schools have the Financial calendar easy to find with the admissions info, and some you have to dig for it. I also have a DC16 and have just started pulling my due dates together. I was caught a little off guard last year. Now I know better.
Also saw Inside Out on Father’s Day with D1, D2, and D3. Very good and just maybe D1 learned something from it…
