OK folks, need some help. ACT did not go well for D. She totally forgot to watch her time in the Math section (!!!) and had to just totally guess on 6 questions. We are trying to see if she can cancel her score, but I don’t see anything on the website and there is nobody there on the weekend. Does anyone know?

OK, there was somebody there. However, she did not know what she was talking about (although was very nice) and had to ask someone else there. She said we could cancel them. And I saw this on the website: “If you would like us to delete your scores for a particular test date from our records, you must request it in writing. Provide us with your name and home address, and we will mail you a form to complete and return to us. We will then permanently remove your record for that test date from our files. All scores from that test date will be deleted.”

This seems odd. Would everyone cancel them if they weren’t what you were hoping for? It doesn’t even say you have to do it within “x” days after taking the exam, so it seems like you could get scores back first and then cancel. I don’t get that.

keepme, Temple is not at all a long ride from Penn. We did Penn and Drexel drive-bys then up to Temple and it was fast…but it was also a weekend day. Sunday parking was easy but i hear during the week it is not, at all. I’ll be interested to hear your impressions. I was warned about the neighborhood so was ready for the South Bronx of the late 70’s and it isn’t like that at all. Plenty of people walking around shopping, etc on the main streets. The campus itself is modern and attractive and well policed. We paused for a minute in front of a map and within 30 seconds campus security rode up on a bike to see if we needed anything.

Re the ACT: “It didn’t suck as much as the SAT”. Okaaaay.

twogirls, make sure you log out of FB when you are done there or your D can see everything you do…

WE ARE DONE :D/ YAHOO!!
Says English and reading were easier this time than the December test, science was " regular" and the math was very hard compared to the December test. Suzy everybody walked out saying the math was VERY hard. Your D may do better than she thinks.

@suzy100, I’m very sorry the ACT didn’t go well for your DD. You must be an hour ahead of us (we’re on CT) because my DS is still in the ACT. I agree that there must be some time-limit on canceling ACT scores, like there is w/the SAT. DS canceled his SAT scores from Oct 2013 because he didn’t complete enough questions. He felt the Jan 2014 SAT went much, much better for him. Which just goes to show that kids can have a bad testing day and canceling scores is fine if the kid has a bad feeling about the test. You might want to call the ACT back on Monday and verify that you have the correct info. It seems like one would have to cancel the test by - say - Wed of this upcoming week…like you have to do for the SAT. You could also post your question in the ACT/SAT forum today.

Now, DS’s high school automatically puts Every. Single. Test. score on the student’s transcript, which annoys me completely because not all high schools do that. Even if ACT will cancel your DD’s test score at “any time,” I would get it done ASAP so that there’s no chance the score will be sent to your DD’s high school. Maybe your DD’s HS does not include all tests on the transcript, but I would cover that base, as well.

I hope my post makes sense. I’m stress-cleaning my house while DS takes the ACT, and all the dust has gone to my head!

Well, this isn’t a case of her just not feeling great about it. She ran out of time so just filled in the last 6 Math bubbles randomly. I’m so completely bummed for her - we were both hoping to just be done.

Edit: cross-posted with you GoAskDad. Thanks for the information. I will see if I can figure out how to post a thread in the main forum and ask if anyone has done that.

Suzy my D guessed on 4 questions on the science in December (also ran out of time) and still got a 34 on science. Filling in 6 randomly might not be bad if the other questions went reasonably well. How did she find the other sections? My D just said that she also guessed on 5 in math- it was very hard. There is only one school on her list that requires all tests- UMD-CP. The rest allow you to choose which ones to send. I just asked her if she wants me to cancel this score and she said no…

@suzy100, my D had an accident last June when she took the subject SAT. We canceled it right away - I sent CB a letter, also emailed them. Then her score was canceled. We got part of the registration fee back, because they didn’t need to grade her test.

@suzy100, here is a link that tells how to cancel ACT scores.

http://www.actstudent.org/faq/delete.html

3G3C…maybe we’ll run into each other! We will eventually be at Gtown on Monday as the hotel we’re staying at for the tournament would not give me the team rate to extend my stay. So we are checking out and moving over to the campus hotel at some point that day. If you see a mom with a 5-10 D and a 5-6 11 year old who is whining the entire time, you know it’s us 8-|

Twogirls…you’re not imagining things, I said S2 won’t be in school Friday bc we are starting our road trip and that’s probably when they’ll have the honor roll breakfast. That’s just how things work for me!

OhMom…I’ll let you know our thoughts on Temple. D needs some schools that are less reachy and I would love to learn more about their scholarships. Although people we know seem much more concerned about the area around Temple than they are about Fordham.

Slackermom…I think that’s the route my GPS said to go. I’m not a fan of city driving, not as easy in a minivan as a zippy little Sedan of my younger days. I have the address to both campus parking garages, hopefully they won’t be full.

So, what are the instructions for the facebook group?

@suzy100, sorry to hear ACT didn’t go well for your D. A friend of mine had to cancel her child’s score last year. I remember they telling me getting it canceled and getting money back, just like @herandhisMom said. But you need to do it quick - get it done before the end of Monday.

yeah what is the instructions for the facebook group?

Well, DS just called from the ACT. He said that math was very hard & he’s upset. Thanks @herandhisMom for the ACT link, because we may need it here, too. However, I think DS was OK w/other sections…and thought writing went well…but Math is his weakness already, so I can only imagine how many he missed if the section was truly very difficult. I’m interested to see what he says when he gets home…

GoAskDad, I called the ACT center back (hoping to get someone else) and they are closed. There is no clarification anywhere about when you have to do it but I don’t see how it happens quickly. You have to mail them a request to cancel the score, then they mail you back a form to fill out, then you mail that back to them. Seems crazy. If I learn anything more, I’ll post it here.

Thanks for the help and the kind words here folks. It’s definitely not the end of the world, just more of a disappointment and a hassle!

Also, D is not home yet. She’s got 4 people coming here in about 15 minutes to work on a group science project. I do not know how she feels about the rest of the test and probably won’t until later tonight.

@GoAskDad and Suzy, hopefully it wasn’t as bad. But even if you have to cancel the score, don’t feel too bad. My friend’s child messed up her first SAT, canceled it (it was last year or the year before) and did all the tests later wonderfully and got into the top college.

Our Board must be discussing which holidays or vacations to cancel, after so many “snow” or “cold” days of cancellation. Altogether so far there are 13 days of cancellations, and 6 delays.

DS is home. ACT did not go well.

I have been reading the ACT thread and the general consensus is that this was a very hard test ( . This goes along with what my D said. It is very very possible that these kids will do better than they think due to the curve.

D sat ACT pretty OK. She felt Eng and reading easy, science about normal, and Math VERY hard…guessed on last 3. Consensus among friends that Math much harder than practice or earlier versions. Hopefully, Math will have a nice curve.

Now we can concentrate on happier things such as packing for Paris! :-j

Eerboco that was exactly what my D said except she guessed on 5 LOL!! Paris??? How exciting!! Enjoy!!

Re the Facebook group: send a message to me with your email address, and I’ll add you to the group. It’s set to super-secret-double-handshake or something. You’ll have to have a FB account to join, but your joining/activity is not visible on your page (your kids won’t see it). Come join us! It’s a hoot putting names with faces.

Two girls, don’t be mistaken. The family is not going to Paris…just my D as a member of her French class. Each pair of students stays with a host family and meet up in Paris for the day. She will spend a week there with about 15 of her classmates. When she returns we will do another college visit. I am excited for her and a bit nervous.
