Do you plan to attend move in day or parents weekend? DD will have pre-orientation activities and they will get assigned temporary dorms. She will probably not get her permanent dorm until 10 days into the school year.
Hello @aMomWithHope ! It sounds rough! As the mom of an older D who did NOT begin college right out of HS, in part because she didnāt know what to do and wasnāt mature or ready, I can say that having your D take another year might not be such a bad idea.
I donāt know anything about commercial voice, but my BIL is a successful actor who does a great deal of spoken voice work, both for commercials and in animated shows. This funds his first love, which is stage work. His college background is in theater, though, so that probably wonāt help you. He attended, and still recommends Carnegie Mellon.
@PAO2008 - Just ⦠wow. Yes, our teacher did the same thing, giving tests that were disproportionately hard (and harder, it turns out, than the B/C exam itself). She also told them what grade theyād need to get a 5, but then she curved the exams, so getting the equivalent of a mid-4 to 5 meant an A. How ridiculous to hold them to getting what - a nonexistent ā7ā??? Iām so sorry - that sounds like a nightmare for the students.
Thought I finished up my last high school road trip with D16 2 weeks ago when I chaperoned D16 (and D18) for Latin State Competition, but D16ās LAX team qualified for the state championship that same weekend. She played 2 LAX games in between a Latin test in the AM and a costume event in the late afternoon. So I am getting in one more high school road trip with D16 this weekend! She finishes up her last AP exam (AP Euro) this afternoon before we hit the road.
There are 576 in her graduating class. Anticipating that there will be a very brief speech from the Superintendant and 1 student voted on by the graduating class, recognition of the Top 10 and then the reading of the names, it took about 1.5 hours last year. So I am assuming the drill will be the same this year, not that I would know
Congrats @bookmom7 We had an emergency release drill so we got out early. Does anyone know if FA is reduced by a outside scholarship paid directly to the school? My teacherās association scholarship is one of those.
@sseamom according to US News (where I had to go to look it up) we have 3954 students. This means we probably have more than 900 grads.
As for announcing colleges, they will announce the colleges of the āgold robesā when they are featured at the ceremony. We donāt have valedictorians. So anyone with an unweighted 4.0 wears a gold robe. At last count (before 11th grade second semester grades went out), there were 23. It should be lower now. Last year there were 16 presented. They mention colleges and scholarships and recognize each kid seperatly from the over 900 grads. Mine will be wearing a gold robe!
I thought it was interesting that although our school uses rank, at awards night the recognition was for āSeven Semesters of Straight Aāsā. There were two listed- the #1 girl, and S (#2). I donāt remember if they do anything special at graduation. S was sad that they didnāt just wait a week and give them certificates for 8 semesters of straight Aās. Lol. Why not go back through middle school- 14 semesters of straight Aās! Ha!
Thanks for the suggestions- I did call the school and they will reprint Sās certificate with his name spelled correctly. Yay. They were very nice and apologetic. I told them no worries- happy it can be fixed. (If not, then itās a keepsake with a funny story.)
Is anyone elseās kid getting emails from colleges they declined? D received two today, along the lines of āitās not too late, you can change your mind and send your depositā. I did look at the forum for one of the schools and saw they were starting to pull from their wait list.
