@RoghtCoaster I’m at the make or break stage in a start-up I’m working for and it’s been getting stressful. I was on a down note this morning, and thinking anything but what I’m working on sounded interesting. Can’t divulge here what I’m up too… but it’s more complicated that making a portal for college portals.
What I’d was thinking this morning, was perhaps a site that maybe just polled the various portals with status information. It could be part a password helper, and partly information site for this stage of the game. But one that didn’t dig into the deeper information, such as financials. Once you get to the want to commit to a school, choose housing or stuff all it would do is help log you in.
What makes it difficult would be that there must be thousands of schools, most with their own portal. And they quite likely update at least once a year all at the same time.
I have closely followed this thread since my S, '17, is a 3.5 UW student with new SATs of 1160 (640 V 520M). I really appreciate all of the information. Obviously his strength is not math. I have a JMU grad '16 but he is more interested in PA/NY schools. He applied to 11 and yesterday got acceptances to Duquesne and Westchester. I wanted to share in case anyone is still looking for schools. Both are city-oriented - which is what he wants. Duq did give him a nice merit award, so for anyone with similar stats, worth looking into. Will update as other decisions come in!
West Chester is sort of a “city” school, but not really. Its is more located in its own town, but still close to Philadelphia. Temple and Drexel are in the city.
@rolani88 Sorry to hear about the deferral of OofU. I’m glad for you it wasn’t an outright denial. But I am sure that is frustrating. It would be frustrating for me. And it now makes me nervious since that is the only EA application my son has turned in. He only checked the portal last Sunday & it stated that the SAT scores weren’t in yet, although we’d send them a week earlier. Did you get the letter by mail?
I agree on Westchester, but close enough to the City to count for him. But with all things being equal, the scholarship offer from Duquesne makes it very close, so he would likely choose that option. Thanks for the welcome. It has been very informational to read all of your posts.
I am feeling grumpy bc likely have to wait almost a MONTH for D’s first decision. Can hope that UVM comes in sooner but not counting on it. I am happy for those of you with some admits but I want some too! [pouting and stomping feet]
A word to UVM applicants: if a UVM acceptance ends up being on the table, and travel costs generally are a concern, be aware that the university has a long Thanksgiving break (this year’s starts tomorrow and goes until the Sunday after Thanksgiving) and that the residence halls all close for Thanksgiving. I’m posting this now just because I’m thinking about my nephew, scheduled to come home to the midwest this weekend.
@kt1969 feel free to stomp your feet and throw things even- I think we all understand!
We’re lucky that DS2’s results should all be in by the first week of Dec. Not sure when all the financial packages will arrive though and that ALWAYS makes a difference. He has narrowed his options from his 5 applications to a top 3 group where we need to set up second visits so he can sit in on classes and maybe do an overnight. Being in the Midwest and with the predicted snowier than normal winter I’m not looking forward to traveling to schools again but it has to be finished before his spring sport begins in March so it looks like we’re stuck.
Just FYI to those waiting for UVM decisions: in D’s ‘big envelope’, the acceptance letter stated that merit awards will come out beginning in late December, and other FA awards beginning in early March.
We just got our first acceptance!!! Yes, I said WE! This school was a mama’s choice not even on her radar originally. It is a safety, but we have no idea about the financial package yet. We visited it last week and she liked but not loved it. She said she could see herself there and happy, so it’s a real possibility. I have not been given permission to post names yet. She doesn’t want to jinx anything. LOL.
@kt1969 we can have a stomping party together!!! LOL
We should know on 2 by mid dec and the other by the end of Dec. According to one of the 12/1 schools we should hear in Dec as well but the rest will be Feb I think. One. I just want one in.
YAY @klinska and @“Queen’s Mom” LOVE the acceptances!!!
@rosered55 many schools seem to have that long break. Our OOS kid right now usually goes with a friend, it’s worked out ok. Hasn’t made sense to fly her home but there has never been a shortage of options. Once they get out of the dorms it is easier though for sure!
Well… the kid finally got the Cal State apps in, Cal Poly & Humboldt. So that is 3/7… (Yes… he dropped one UC off his list… I’m going to lobby to get UC Merced on as a safety.) Still needs the UC’s (must be done by the end of the month). And then two more sometime in Dec. At least he was willing to work with me today.
I expect him to hear from his safety (Humboldt) before Xmas. I keep saying I’ll be a money’s uncle if he doesn’t get in there. A friend who applied had acceptance from Humboldt before Xmas two years ago. It’s a STAT’s based school and he does have the STATS. (UC GPA & SATS makes a nice high Cal State index #.) If he gets in before Xmas we might visit over Christmas. We will see…
That’s the good. The bad is he’s already forgotten his portal information for UofO. He’s not as anxious to check it as I am. Last he looked at it… it said he was missing his SAT’s. (That was last week and we submitted them a month ago.) We checked on them today & I couldn’t find ANYWHERE on the SAT site that lists what schools you have sent scores too. It must be there?? RIGHT?
Oddly I got a email about the SAT we submitted tonight. So I looked, I must have received an email about the other scores. But nope… no email. Checked my CreditCard… I PAID to have the information sent. Also got confirmation that sending all scores DOES send SAT II’s as well, but not AP’s. Cal Poly wanted AP’s so we sent them.
@curiositycat333 They don’t make it easy to find, IMHO. Go to the My SAT page and scroll down to My Test Scores. Click on “Understand Your Test Performance and See Sent Scores” in that section under the test you think you sent. The page it takes to you to will say Score Report for SAT with Essay or whatever it was. The option on the right under that says “score sends”. Click on that and you’ll see the list of where you sent scores, date sent, and status. Hope that works for you.
Yes, it’s really hard to find. It took me a good half hour of clicking around to find what @kt1969 describes. The 3 test scores I sent the other day still say “awaiting fulfillment.” So stupid. It is all electronic now and should not take any real time. I firmly believe it’s a ploy to get more money from the “rush” service. I tried calling the admissions office to check if the late scores would effect EA status, but no one answering phones seemed to know. I think email to the local admissions counselors will go out today just to clarify.
