Parents of the HS Class of 2019 (Part 1)

@mountainmomof3 -how did they get the scores early? Ours aren’t supposed to come out until Saturday. IB scores are out today but I don’t have access so will have to wait to see when S feels like checking them.

@elena13 Get the Puffin app on your phone. It’s a browser. Then go on Puffin and go to the CB website and log in.

@elena13. You can use a proxy and get the scores early. My D also received her scores today via a proxy.

Easiest way is what @homerdog said, download puffin web browser to your phone, and log in from that browser. Super easy! I just got S19, he got 5’s Calc AB and English, and 4 in US Hist, which is a surprise since he thought he bombed it  Congrats to all the students out there!! Some great scores being reported

The HS offers a mix of DE and AP so S19 only had AP Lang and AP Chem to check. Both 5’s but not surprised as both teachers were truly top notch and throughout the year really kept the students on track for the test.

S19 got a 4 on AP Physics 1 and a 5 in AP Psych, which is about what he expected. Should be good for some general ed credits at most schools he might apply to.

Congrats to all the '19 kids for their hard work!

Why do you need to do it through the puffin web browser, what does that do?

@soxmom if you’re not in one of the states that were released today, it allows you to still see your scores. Our state wasn’t set to view until Sunday.

Got it. No clue why that makes it work, but it did. I feel so sneaky that I know D19’s scores and she won’t be able to see them for two weeks still (she’s in the wilderness in Alaska with no phone/internet). She’s going to be absolutely shocked to find that she got a 4 in Bio, she was worried she might only get a 2!

Thanks for the Puffin hookup @homerdog . Our state was set for release tomorrow. S19 got a 4 on APUSH. Which will count for some gen eds at all of the schools on the list. He is pleased.

S AP reports come out tomorrow    Excited to see how it worked out.

Thanks for the heads up about the early scores - D will be relieved to not have to wait. I already looked of course and she got two 4’s and a 5 on English so she should be happy. Might be a little annoyed with her photography only getting a 4 but she really stressed about what to do for that project and did it at the last minute so I am happy. I always tell my kids not to worry about the AP scores - they don’t even know if they will end up at a school that takes them for credit and colleges never have to see them if they don’t want to self report. They have so much stress at the end of the year I try to make this one more stress free! Now if only I knew my D21’s login information - I never got that from her so will have to wait until she wakes up.

I ran into a neighbor yesterday who has a D18 and she was giving me some advice for the next year. She gave me the name of a local company/ outside college counselor she used to help her D organize her college resume. D does not have much to put on her resume (no sports, no clubs, a bunch of volunteering) and I didn’t know how to make it look good so I just called them and set up a consultation meeting. I am excited I ran into the neighbor because I had dismissed these services as being too expensive for what we needed (I am doing all of the legwork here on CC so did;t need someone helping with a college list, what tests to take, etc.) but she told me they can do it hourly and we would only need a few sessions to do a resume.

Oh - and she also made me feel much better because I found out that our dean writes the recommendation letter at our school not the college counselor! We only have two college counselors for about 900 students and the one lady we met for 1/2 hour retired this summer. Our dean doesn’t know D at all either, but he has less kids to deal with (there are 9 or 10 deans) and I have emailed with him many times over the years with different questions so he may at least know our name. Time to get into school to meet him and start to butter him up! :))

@homerdog @gallentjill and the rest. I am so in awe of you guys. Thanks so much for the AP info!!

@gallentjill: yep!

@peachActuary73: used it here too. When Georgia officially gets the scores, S wants to study what he got right/wrong, like he unpacked his SAT scores.

Why does CB do this staggered release approach when it’s so easy to circumvent it? All 5’s here as well.

@apraxiamom can the kids see the details on their tests?

@homerdog. No, kids can’t see the details of their AP tests.

@apraxiamom How will you guys check what’s right and wrong if you can’t see details of the test? See @shuttlebus 's comment above.

For that, we’ll all probably have to pull on the actual release day. My son wants to check that as well.
