Parents, what are you giving your college grads as a gift?

Per divorce agreement, Staffords will be paid off. But I have wondered if they might be better served by a car, and more help getting life started. They say they prefer the loan payoff.

D#1 got a necklace at graduation, and a rain parka, as she was moving to the NW.

D#2 is getting a backpack for her year teaching in Europe and a piece of jewelry she could not otherwise afford as well.

A car - she will need it for her job, and the car she used to drive when home is old and unreliable.

She will also graduate with no loans.

We also covered room, board and tuition for both kids so they each managed to save enough to set themselves up in an apartment. Bought S1 a new bike; he is one of those crazies you see commuting by bike through the Boston winters. S2 will also get a bike but it looks like he’ll be riding his in sunny CA.
