Parents, what are your 7 year olds into these days?

Please find time to read to your kids…everyday.

We wanted our kids to do something in the arts, and some kind of movement or sports.

Both kids enjoyed dance lessons, and their instrumental music lessons. Piano lessons for one kid started in first grade. Both did dance class from preschool to grade 3.

Check your town recreation programs. Ours offered lots of things for kids…small duration classes.

Our DD started scouts in grade 1 also.

I agree…don’t overbook. It will make you feel like you are running a taxi service, and your kids also need time to just do things at home (like playing in the yard, helping you cook, doing their chores).

We offered options to our kids, and let the kids decide which ones they enjoyed.

How about science projects from a science project book? Or going on a scavenger hunt walk (make a list like: a rock shaped like an egg, a leaf with toothed edges, a wildflower, sighting of a natural object shaped like an animal, etc).

There’s a book called The Dangerous Book for Boys that has all kinds of cool things to read about and do. There is also a Daring Book for Girls. A lot of the things in the books would be suitable for both boys and girls.

I had girls who liked art, crafts, reading, watching PBS, nature shows, and doing basically anything outdoors with us.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. Will definitely check the Dangerous Book for Boys
