Parents - What College Would YOU Attend?

HIMom; good to see another U of OR major in Sociology! Were you there in 70s or 80s? If so, we probably had many of same profs!

After visiting Barnard with my daughter a couple of years ago, I decided I wanted to go there. I had never even heard of Barnard when I was her age. If not Barnard, then maybe somewhere near Boston. Love Boston!

I was there in the mid-70s and knew pretty much all the women faculty in the sociology department, as they were all my advisors for writing the 1st honor’s thesis there. I also knew some of the male faculty. Loved U of OR–was a great time & place for me. Had never been around so many people who had just left their hometown for the first time in their lives.

If I was choosing a college today… I’d go to Scripps, enjoy the perks of a women’s college (dorms, food, etc.), and make sure to cross register and take as many science classes at Harvey Mudd as possible - just to kick the mudders’ butt. I’d still major in chemistry.

I would have picked the same college again (Emory) for so many reasons…my big mistake was coming back to NY for med school!

I would have majored in psychology rather than biology. I would have taken more courses in English and maybe philosophy.

I am not really a “club” person but I wish I had taken more advantage of the arts, both at the school and in the city, and had worked to develop that side of myself.

But who am I kidding? I felt an obligation to return closer to home (although my parents put no pressure on me), I liked being a science major at the time (disliked large quantities of reading and writing), and my biggest cultural event was scoring tkts for the Rolling Stones!

Oh gosh, I would have done the same thing over again. It should make me happy but it also makes me kind of sad.

You like Chihuly?
He must have changed.
