I like helping to foster an educational environment that is engaging for students, that enables students to have both enough support and enough challenge to succeed in school and be stimulated intellectually, and that helps students make choices and take charge of their own learning.
I like to bring out the potential of both teachers and students and help both to excel and find fulfillment in what they do.
I enjoy helping teachers to do research and then design curriculum and instruction based on that research.
I enjoy working with a group of adults to arrive at a consensus about an educational policy or instructional practice to adapt. I enjoy the challenge of balancing each individual teacher’s autonomy with the need for certain common outcomes to prepare students for the next year’s learning.
When a teacher is not doing the best work possible, I enjoy diagnosing what the problem is, helping the teacher to recognize it, and mentoring the teacher to learn how to improve.
And I like being part of the evaluation process and the hiring and firing decisions that ensure we have the best possible staff for our students.
I like knowing my work makes a difference in the lives of children… and that they will grow into adults who can help our world and make a difference for other people in turn.
