FYI, this isn’t true. Only 2 medical schools require 2 semesters of calculus and both of them are recruiting engineering, physics and CS majors for their program. (Carle-Illinois and Texas Tech’s Engineers to Medicine.)
And, according to AMCAS, only 9 med school actually require calculus 1, although 20 others recommend it. Most med schools that have a math requirement (and not all of them do) prefer students take statistics or biostatistics instead calculus. Statistics will be used for the rest of a physician’s career, but as my daughter (the math major) once lamented --there is no math in med school.
That’s a good point, for the mortgage and stuff I know I’m not legally obligated to do it, but it’s the expectation, but anyways thanks for ur advice!! I’m gonna stick to the PA program for now and try to get my pre reqs and reconsider once I finish those.
Your parents have placed a lot of heavy guilt and burdens upon you.
I am a child of immigrants but even they would not have expected me to take on their financial and health burdens. It was a source of pride for them to be able to buy a house in the US with their hard work and meager savings.
You are not born to meet their financial obligations, their health care needs, and their need for you to supply a healthy uterus for procreation.
Please don’t put the weight of the world on your shoulders. You’re a student and the only thing you should worry about is getting good grades, staying healthy, and taking the courses that you need for whatever occupation you intend to enter. Plus, you need to enjoy your life!
As parents we want the best for YOU! We want you to enjoy living!
At some point, I think your parents have forgotten about that.
Given that I believe that you’ve been an excellent student and good person, you need to know that you couldn’t ask for more in anyone. They should be proud of your current accomplishments and not setting up selfish requirements upon you.
So later on, if it gets to a point where you feel obligated and/or in “turmoil”, just know that you can find support through any mental health services at your campuses. (edit! AND)/Or keep us posted on here. This website has been around for a while. You’ll always find support here.
Good luck!
Remember what Mr. Rogers said about his success, “look for the helpers”. People will help, you just need to be willing to look.
