I’d also add to look up stats on job placement rate IN THEIR FIELD post graduation. That sold us at SCAD and also sold us on the UX design major rather than something more traditionally artistic. As much as I support both my kids going to art school, I know a lot of young people with BFAs doing unglamorous jobs outside of art, not by choice but because the fields are saturated. And they all were good artists going in and their grades and work in college were good too. They need to be realistic about their skills and abilities, be very ambitious in creating opportunities at whatever school they are at and not take on too much debt. I don’t believe any school is worth 80k unless money isn’t an object and frankly, if someone isn’t getting decent merit offers, they might not be equipped with the skills to separate themselves from the pack once there. I think prioritizing being very practical with the decision on where to go and what to do once there is safest. Good luck, it’s certainly a ride!
