Party school with decent academics?

I concur: UMASS.

I stayed there twice while visiting friends, and all I’ll say is: that place is nuts.

USC also seemed pretty fun.

UVA and Vanderbilt both fit your description. Both are on the smaller side, 13,000 and 6,000 respectively. Both also have solid engineering programs (but still options for a broader liberal arts education) and obviously great social/party life.

One big difference between the two would be Vandy’s urban location. Charlottesville is a much more traditional college town.
