That’s great news for you, mamanmidwife, but only makes me more concerned :(

Finally! Application for renewal by standard delivery was mailed on April 17th. Application status website says that passport was mailed back by priority mail today.

That’s great news, worrywart. No such luck here, though.

I sent mine in, renewal-not expedited-on March 29. I STILL haven’t received it. The online passport status indicates it’s “in process”. Luckily I don’t have an immediate need for it, but I certainly expected it by now. I think I sent it to the Philadelphia processing center, but I can’t remember.

Where did you submit yours?

Sorry to hear that, curiouser. Glad it’s not urgently needed. Since it was H’s renewal, he did the paperwork so I’m not sure which processing center.

I just got mine yesterday. I applied March 14th, non-expedited, so it was just over 14 weeks (at the time, they told me 10 weeks). Good luck, curiouser.

oh man, there was a mix up in philly and checks have sat in the lock box for 5 weeks instead of 24 hrs.http://www.philly.com/inquirer/local/20070621_The_wait_for_a_passport__A_bad_trip_for_travelers.html

OK, I applied for mine that last week of March,
I NEEEEED it by the first of September.
Will they make sure to get it to me??? Should I be worried?
Is it the urgency that makes the diff?
I hope so!!!

WildChild went to the post office and resubmitted- expedited- got it in a week.

Husband, son and daughter are leaving for Europe Wednesday (June 27). Son and daughter’s passports needed renewal. Submitted March 29, not expedited. As of today they are “in process.” Husband has spent hours on the phone with passport office and congressman’s office.

I had to expedite mine, and so did my brother and mom. That seriously ate up all the money I made this summer.

But there is an explanation – the lady told me it was because they now require passports to get into Canada and Mexico which has nearly tripled (?) the amount of apps and re-apps.

Expediated on june 2 still don’t have it, he doesn’t need it till early sept.

The line for passports at the Federal Building in LA is three hours long. The caseworker at one of the local Congressional offices is absolutely swamped with passport problems.

My son’s passport is over 5 years old. He was just 16 when he got it, so it is still valid for ~5 more years. The problem is that he looks very different from his picture, and on recent travels he has gotten serious double takes by the passport officers. He looked like he was about 13 at age 16 when the passport was issued, and still looks young for 21, but very different from the picture. Would you consider renewing it early, so there are no problems? His recent travels have been with family, but his future travels will probably be without us.

Geez, I am so sorry for the stress that several of you are enduring. Sure hope you receive your passports in time for your travels.

omgosh…I’ve read this entire thread. We have abruptly decided to try to accompany my husband on one of his business trips to Edinburgh and staying on a week or so to travel to London. He, of course, is up to date…but now I need to get passports for the kids quickly. I plan to use his passport service, but good grief, they charge over $100 per passport for expediting. I suppose I have no other choice since we are talking about an early August trip? Any advice would be appreciated.

ldmom06- I had a friend who had to use a passport service. I don’t know the cost but she had her passport in just 8 days.

Cincy gal—you may be right, but I was under the impression that if child under 18 years was issued a passport-then child’s passport must be renewed every 5 years-then every 10 years, thereafter. This timeline would make it necessary to renew. (I originally ordered Ds at age 10-then renewed age 15 now is good till she is 20-then she renews at age 30,40,etc)

thanks mom60…that’s very encouraging. At this point, I’m willing to pay (I’ll just try not to think about it…lol!)

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I just returned home (9:00 pm) to find an email from my congressman’s office and got all excited to see a tracking number for my passport. Went to the Fed-ex website to track the package only to see that it had been left (?) at my front door at 11:37 am. There is NOTHING on my front porch, back porch, in the bushes, etc.!!! Does this mean my birth certificate was also in this package!!! I am so *&(&$%^, I don’t know what to do. The Fed-Ex center is closed and they can’t check on the delivery until Monday. I told them it was my passport and I’m screwed. The CSR told me, “Have a nice trip”. I wanted to reach through the phone and choke her! My only hope is to get through to the Phila Passport Agency tomorrow, since I leave on a business trip to Miami 6 am Monday and my trip is scheduled for Friday…

applied March 15th - non-expedited.

On the second to last page of the passport, it says that it contains sensitive electronic equipment. What kind of electronics are in these things? Does anyone know? The only thing I can think of would be that some countries scan them rather than manually check them–or else it’s some kind of creepy Big Brother thing.
