*How I Studied-In freshman year, I focused solely on high school classes and didn’t even think about the PSATs until that summer. Just doing the homework and studying for less than 25 minutes the night before a test seemed to do. In the summer, I skimmed through the Official SAT Study Guide and Princeton Review SAT Books. Two weeks before my Sophomore PSAT, I went to the library to pick up a small Barrons PSAT Prep Manual. When I got my score back, I immediately knew I could do better, even though my confidence was shot. I religiously studied over 500 vocabulary words during English class and free time to prepare for the sentence completions. A month before the test, I took about 8 SAT practice tests, skipping the long reading passages because I got bored of them. (Silly me.) When I got my scores back, I was elated at everything besides my CR score, naturally. Even though I only answered 1 vocabulary question incorrectly, I made 14 mistakes on the actual reading section. CR is the only section where I really want to improve.

*My Advice
-There’s a thread on this site called How to Write a 12 Essay in Just 10 Days. I believe that thread helped immensely for my essay. There’s also other many others that you can find on the Best of SAT Prep Thread.
-The Sparknotes website has a thread called the 7 Deadly Grammar Mistakes. That thread practically threw me a 780.
-Rely on your local library before you buy prep books.
-OFFICIAL SAT Practice tests are your friends.
-Study at least 200 vocabulary words.

*MOST IMPORTANTLY
-Remember that you are in high school. Watch movies, go to the beach, and have fun with friends to make the most out of your adolescent experience. (Especially if you are just freshmen/sophs.) Even if you don’t get a stellar score or get into an Ivy League university, you can still easily get a good job at your local college if you work hard enough. People who judge you by whether you got to Harvard or Anonymous County College are people who shouldn’t matter to you.
