That didn’t last long - it’s gone again.
It looks like it’s open…again…
Just says planned maintenance for me and can’t access stuff. Bother
Yes, that’s correct. And that is a change from past rules.
Same, the “start new form” has been disabled for me too. I’ve been trying on and off and so far not able to start.
Sooo it’s December 32nd today. Let’s hope they get this thing started by December 40th or 50th.
I imagine that there were friendly wagers on when it would be available … and I would not be surprised if the majority of bets were placed on December 32nd and beyond!
Colleges will be able to handle the delays. It’s only recently that the FAFSA was available before January 1, and when it opened January 1 it used tax information from the previous year … so very few families were actually prepared to submit their financial information on January 1st. But because there are a lot of changes, schools will be working at warp speed to get everything done as quickly as possible.
Well…I wouldn’t rush…from the article:
Even if students do successfully submit a completed 2024–25 FAFSA form, that information won’t be sent to schools until late January, the Education Department also said, which could potentially delay financial aid award offers from colleges.
Fafsa officially done!!!
We now know of at least one FAFSA submitted.
How was the experience? Other than the waiting, was it pretty easy?
I did my S24’s part and it took 3 minutes. Zero substantive questions except for how much is in his checking/savings account. The rest was demographic, high school info, all non-financial standard stuff. But it wouldn’t let me submit the signature but it is saved.
I assumed no questions were asked that could be found on a tax return, so that really slimmed his portion down. In other words, I didn’t have to input his 2022 income information.
I haven’t done the parent portion yet, so we will see how that goes!
I think once you do your part and add your signature, it will be ready to submit. It will save his signature until the parent information is done & parent signature is added. But you’ll know for sure when the time comes, because it will let you know if it’s good to go once you sign and submit.
Ah ha! I did not realize that piece, that I needed to do the parent portion before S24 signature would be accepted.
Well, I’m going to look at it in a few days, I went on a couple of times today and it was frozen.
I was able to complete my FAFSA today. Other than having to wait a while for both my mom and I to be able to log in, everything was easy. There were no glitches that we came across in the actual FAFSA.
Appreciate this reply! As a newbie, I feel a little nervous about delays!
@Esmom06 if this screen name is your real name, I would strongly urge you to change it.
Here is how:
Is anyone else having issues setting up a new account? When I go through and get to address input, it acts as if there is an error on the page (won’t let me move forward) but it does not say anything to help correct the error.
