I really loved Moby Dick the movies not so much, but I had a great English teacher for it. The chapters on whale anatomy were slow, but the rest, I don’t know it’s one of those books that really has stayed with me.
I read Pride and Prejudice long before I saw any of the filmed versions - it came after binging on Georgette Heyer. I haven’t read much Hemingway, but I actually did like A Farewell to Arms
I’m a big fan of Young Adult Literature. There are some great reads in the genre. I wouldn’t put Twilight in that category. I know it has been super popular but I don’t think it is well-written.
I also went through phases in high school and college where I’d binge on authors and read pretty much the entirety of their works - Hemingway, Jane Austen, Saul Bellow, Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving, Edith Wharton, Toni Morrison, etc. Although I still read regularly, the internet and tv and streaming provide other distractions
^^^I definitely binge on authors–most recently, Clare Messud. Once I find an author whose work I enjoy, I want to read it all.
@doschicos , I love YA genre also. Some very good books that I can finish in one plane ride… see if your library has Refugee, by Alan Gratz. It’s three interwoven stories about refugee families from 1930s Germany, 1990s Cuba and 2015 Serbia.
