<p>An update! We ended up getting a Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 from Newegg.com It was on sale for about $61.00 plus a $20. rebate. We also downloaded Skype. Our daughter downloaded it on her macbook as well and we just had our first video and audio phone call. It was pretty fun. My son actually did all the installation and some minor trouble-shooting. I think this will work really well when she is overseas if she has a good connection. Even if we can’t make the computer connection, using skype to call her on a cell phone will only be something like 3 cents for the initial connection then 2 cents a minute after that!</p>

<p>Excellent. The only thing we never established was whether the foreign cell phone was charged for the incoming Skype call. Our daughter either used a neighbor’s wifi signal or went to a free hot spot, e.g., at the local library or McDonald’s. We found the Skype audio quality to be usually better than a cell phone.</p>

<p>Ditto on the Logitech for pc to Mac webcamming. We got one and it works great for laptop or desktop. The salesman at Circuit City informed me that Logitech is the best (for whatever that is worth!)</p>

<p>For those of you trying to use a webcam with the mac, and wanting to use ichat. I just bought a little webcam (Rocketfish notebook web camera) at our local Best Buy, because the package SAID that is was compatible with macs. Well, once it was unloaded, drivers installed etc, I saw the little writing inside the manual that says that it won’t work with I-chat - just Yahoo, AOL and MSN. I couldn’t get it to work with Skype (or Ichat.) I googled around and found a website of mac-groupies that mentioned the solution; there is a program that you can download (free for 7-day trial, $9.95 to purchase program) that solves the problem. I did, and it did - and my son and I just had our first ichat with webcams!!!<br>

<p>(And the reason why I wanted a webcam is NOT so that he can see his dad and me, but so that I can see him. BOTH computers have to have a webcam hooked up for either party to see the other…)</p>
