I’d take a year off and apply to other schools.

Any reason in particular BigGreen?

Why is it that students think that a State School is going to give oos students residency after 1 year??? You are a resident of the state that your parents live in, pay property and income taxes, etc.

Choosing between Penn and Berkeley is sort of difficult. However, for academics only, I would probably go to Berkeley. However, because location purposes, I wouldn’t go to California, so in the end, if I were choosing between Penn and Berkeley, I would go with Penn because of its location. However, hypothetically speaking if Berkeley weren’t all the way on the west coast, and instead on the east coast in the Northeast, I would more than likely go with Berkeley over Penn.

west coast is better than the east coast

Only in aesthetics, weather, and opportunities to surf. The East Coast offers the opportunity of working closer to DC and NY, which are undoubtedly great places to get jobs in business, finance, and government.

yeah. although the beautiful sunny weather with young people beach balling may sound appealing at first, once you move in to the place, you go to the beach once or twice a year. When I said I’m moving to Florida, all my teachers and friends envied me so much and I imagined myself going alligator-hunting and surfing all day. But in reality, I’m just stuck at home I agree with UCLAri about West offering much more practical opportunities.

Speaking of academics, I would choose Berkeley over Penn if you chose to major in engineering; if not Penn.

My knowledge is that you can still double major at Wharton even if you didn’t get in. Am I wrong about this? M&T program only reduces the credit requirement for graduation.

You can double mjor at Wharton.

I myself am going to major in engineering and was in the same delimma as this one. Full ride at berkeley vs. upenn. If money and location weren’t envolved, it would have been a hard decision. But now, I’ve decided to attend Berkeley. :D

Good luck!

Berkeley IS the bigger name. The average adult doesn’t even know that Penn is an Ivy school. The average 8 year old kid knows about Berkeley.

aim78: only an 8 year old in California!

Besides wharton, what is penn good at? Can anyone post the rankings of Cal and Penn in however many catergories you can find?

Umm…are you suggesting that 100% of the population of UPenn is Jewish? Like, could you possibly make a more ridiculous generalization?

No I am not suggesting that the whole population is Jewish… sorry about the geralization.

And who cares if they are Jewish?

We’re not clannish misers with horns coming out of our heads, y’know. Jews loooooove non-Jews, because it’s funny to see how little they (the goyim :P) know of our customs and most non-Jews are interested in learning first-hand.

“Besides wharton, what is penn good at? Can anyone post the rankings of Cal and Penn in however many catergories you can find?”

go to Penn board and I think you’ll be able to find your answer.
I honestly don’t know myself. Penn may be one of the underated colleges.

PS. how do you quote!?

Use the quote tags.

My quote would be here

without that space.

upenn is obviously an elite school. but a lot of people don’t know upenn is an ivy league school. it obviously doesn’t sound like one lol. they’re like univ of penn what? penn state? huhh?

berkeley on the other hand is a much more recognized name to the average ignorant blah person.

but who really cares what the average ignorant blah person thinks?

stanford is much more well known than upenn but upenn is more highly rated on usnews.

is penn easier to get into than cornell for engineering? My dad is pushing me to apply to Penn, but Cornell’s engineering is much better. The average Penn engineer SAT is 1424. Is the Penn engineering department overall less selective than the other departments?

Also, the Management & Technology program seems ultra selective, based on its SAT average of 1521.

I think this year, there was a very few number of Penn enineering department applicants thus you could say it was relatively easier than the previous years to get in. I’m not too sure though.

and M&T program is very selective. not just based on the SAT scores but along with Huntsman Program, the admission is horrendous.

I know its not just SAT, but the SAT average/median is often indicative of the overall quality of the admits.

I think for most people, your best bet is to apply for M&T after freshmen year, assuming you did well freshman year.
