Thank you for that info, very helpful!
What do you think chances are for UP with these stats:
college of education- has lot of ECās and leadership in this field (even though they donāt look at ECās)
3.72 W, 3.6 UW core academic classes only
In state- competitive district where everyone applies to PSU and has high stats
Fall with summer back up
I think itās on the bubble, so donāt expect an early answer. (Early answers tend to be the high stats kids).
no SAT or ACT?
Summer is a good option.
If the high school is ranked highly and competitive, that will help. Admissions knows the success rate of HS - especially in-state.
At this point, itās a waiting game unfortunately.
Thatās kind of what we figured! It seems like everyone from our district applies to PSU and there are many 4.0+ students. A good chunk did apply DUS, got 2+2, appealed then got summer. I think weāre nervous cause our child is not a 4.0 kid.
Itās 50-50 - if he has decent grades and rigor for that GPA theyāll check ECs/statement (and test scores if any) and I think heāll get in Fall or Summer thanks to these. If they think itās too low for them to bother checking
But his UW isnāt bad, just below what they want, though it looks like he took few Honors/AP courses and doesnāt have a test score but his HS being known as rigorous will help. So heās got decent chances. We need teachers who had a solid education and hopefully heāll take full advantage of everything.
The PASSHE schools are all very good for education and heād likely get into the Honors college at a couple so could go for very low tuition costs.
Elizabethtown (safety), Susquehanna (target), Drexel, St Joeās (target), Duquesne (likely) could be possibilities too.
Grades are all A-, 2 B+ took 7 honors/AP classes. I know Fall is most likely no just hoping no 2+2. Wants to work with kids with disabilities and all ECās are focused around that
Going back to self report sat score. Did the self report on portal and now portal is showing all is complete. So assuming that this is correct and not going to order the official ones until decision is made and if accepted and choosing to attend.
Has anyone emailed an AO about their official stance on how to submit test scores? I just read this from their FAQsā¦
Please visit the College Board or ACT to arrange to take one of these exams. The code for Penn State that should be listed on the registration form for the SAT is #2660 and for the **ACT is #3656.**Test scores must be sent directly from College Board to be considered official by Penn State.
My D25 applied last year and did send official scores. I will have my D26 email an AO if no one else has.
This is what the portal said āTo complete your application, your standardized test scores are required if your āItem Statusā indicates āMissingā. Scores may be self-reported via the MyPennState portal or sent to Penn State directly from the testing agency.ā Once we self reported, it said complete and now it says āYour application is currently under review. We have received everything required to complete your application. Once a decision is made, it will be posted here.ā
Yes, this differs from what the website says but we are assuming this is sufficient. Didnāt email AO.
Could I get your thoughts on my senior daughterās UP acceptance chances? 3.73UW / 4.27W GPA & 1300 SAT. All Honor classes & now taking AP Calc AB / AP Lit / AP Psych / AP Physics. Wants to major in Industrial Engineering and has taken 4 years of Technical Drawing / CAD classes. Very involved with dance / musicals / choir. Planning to submit her application this week for Fall 2026 (& would like to apply for Summer Session option as well) Weāre OOS & she only wants main campus. Iām worried her stats arenāt high enough for Engineering. Would you recommend she apply DUS & transfer into Engineering? Or can she ask to be reconsidered for DUS if she doesnāt get Fall or Summer PSU UP? Is it even an option to transfer into Engineering? Would appreciate any feedback.
.
This definitely sounds like you donāt need to send them. My D26 emailed admissions, just in case. Sometimes the websites arenāt updated with new information
Whatās the SAT split?
Rigor in general, especially Calc AB and AP Physics, will be in her favor.
I would say, barring a low SAT math score, go for the Fall/Summer Industrial Engineering major, and if she doesnāt get either Fall or Summer UP, ask for reconsideration DUS Summer (and choose a LEAP Pride that has CAS100+ whatever STEMS class applies to her future major).
680 Math & 620 English
she also scored a 640 English & 650 Math, but I donāt think she can combine the scores for a superscore, correct?
Correct.
Use the 680 Math score, itās a very strong one and will help her (and English is decent).
I stand by the previous recommendation wrt applying for Industrial Engineering Fall&Summer. If that doesnāt return the hoped-for result she can still apply DUS
Thank you so much for your advice / response!
Hi! I am l looking for advice on how my daughter should apply to Penn State. OOS. Full pay. 3.73 weighted gpa, TO, 5 APs, 7 honors classes. Her gpa is much lower as junior year she suffered from two concussions and missed a month of school. She is interested in pre-dental and is very interested for HHD either Biobehavioral Health or Nutrition Sciences. Only interested in UP and perhaps summer. Is she better off applying directly for BBH or NS, undecided for HHD, or DUS?
DUS, definitely summer. will still be a reach for UP. whatās her unweighted gpa? have her school counselor explain the 2 concussions in the rec letter. she could add it in the additional info section of the common app, but Penn State isnāt great about reading essays so the counselor route will be better
I didnāt think Penn State looked at counselor rec letters? Iām not even sure where they get the school profile fromā¦
Hereās the response from the AOā¦.
This is the first year we are allowing Self Reported Test Scores on your application. If you get admitted and choose to come to Penn State we will ask for official test scors to ensure they match the ones you self reported.
So self-reporting is indeed enough!!
If undecided HHD is available, checking both Fall and Summer, thatās what Iād pick, as long as she has 4 years of science including Bio/Chem honors (or AP) and 4 years of social science. She can always ask for reconsideration DUS/Summer later.
Whatās her UNweighted? 3.73 weighted could be anywhere from about 3 to 3.7 unweighted (wildly varying weighting systems). If itās 3.6+ unweighted she has a shot. Under 3.6, even with solid rigor, itās going to be a high reach unless she has AP scores from sophomore/junior years and/or comes from a well-known, selective school.
I suppose the concussions (!s!) can go into āadditional informationā, on commonapp - but the decision tends to be 2/3 (GPAĆrigor).
