🐾 Penn State 🐾 Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

Hi, I did indeed get the 2+2 at Altoona. I’m devastated but I saw this coming. I want summer start more than anything, so I’m going to accept the offer tonight and call admissions at 8:30 am tomorrow and ask for reconsideration, do you still think I should ask for sociology or is there an easier one to get into?

My son also got accepted tonight to UP fall start. 3.75W, test optional, DUS. Good luck to everyone!

If you plan to ask for reconsideration, don’t accept the offer tonight. You have until May 1 to accept an offer, so first see how things go with reconsideration.

Smeal UP - out of sate. Heard 3 days ago. Waiting on some other schools before accepting. Does waiting hurt dorm room selections?

Don’t I have to accept the offer first to even be considered?

What are your hardest classes that you got As in?
What do you want to do for a career, do you see yourself working outdoors, with kids, with computers…?

AFAIK you don’t accept the offer, you ask for reconsideration first.

No :+1:

I’ve had A’s in plenty of good classes but specifically, Honors College English dual enrollment, AP psych, and AP Gov. However, I am so desperate for the summer start that I will take any available major just to get a spot. I also thought that not accepting the offer will hurt my chances at reconsideration? What do I do? What major do I ask for?

Sharing stats to help those that are still waiting. Applied DUS, said yes to summer start. In state, large very well known public school. Gpa 3.4/3.8- all honors, 9Ap’s/DE’s and 1280 SAT (submitted) strong EC’s. Test button disappeared at 7:15 letter uploaded around 7:45ish…admitted to Main- Fall start!! Hang in there to everyone waiting!

How about applying for English/Summer start then if that class was taken at a college (community college or 4-year college)? An A in a college class would show you have the ability to succeed in that field in college.
Then you could pivot to something else at the end of first semester.
You could take CAS100+ another class of interest in the Summer, English30, Soc 1/3/5 or GLIS or Women’s Studies 100, Stats 100 (NOT STATS200 right off the bat), either Intensive foreign language in a new language or level 2 or 3 in the language you studied in HS, and/or a CLA freshman seminar. With that you could pivot to various majors in CLA.

The end goal for me is to major in criminal justice, but, to my understanding, it’s a competitive major. However, I would gladly do the summer start for English! Again, I will take any available major they give me. Do you think they will take me if I ask them for English summer start?

Thank you. I’m glad I’m not going to college. It’s so confusing. Every school is different and the portals and ugh…. Hope my kid can figure it all out when the time comes.

Daughter accepted for DUS! In-state large competitive suburban hs. 3.6UW/3.8W and 1380 submitted. Fall start at UP (had checked yes to summer start). Was sound asleep at 12:35 am when she barged in to tell us her answer lol after getting the notification to check her portal. Guess that’s a good reason to lose a little sleep! Good luck to all still waiting, this answer felt like it took a million years to arrive!!!

Penn State UP (main campus) has a Criminology major but does not have a Criminal Justice major. Several of the branch campuses do have a Criminal Justice major. If you definitely want to major in Criminal Justice, UP is not the campus to choose.

Lurker here. My child was admitted today to DUS UP with summer start. Average stats (3.4UW, 1330 SAT) so we thought 2+2 would be the outcome. In state. Both parents are PSU alum, but not sure if that helped.

Finalizing reconsideration options here. Got 2+2 for Agribusiness Management Summer. Deciding between Energy Business & Finance (Earth & Mineral Sciences) and Recreation Park & Tourism Management (HHD). Did well in stats, calc, chem, physics, sports medicine. Lifeguard, Volunteer at arboretum, did summer programs is Business and Sports Management. Will check summer option. I know we only get one shot so it’s stressful!!!

Found out results from my son’s school. Several very qualified students for Smeal got 2+2 which is very surprising. Must be a very competitive applicant pool. Hope this helps.

Same here. still waiting….

Both are good options for reconsideration. Such a tough situation. Know kids that got in last year for reconsideration with both summer and fall start with those majors as well as education with right around or right below 3.5 unweighted. One was 3.45 unweighted. Both prob had at least one AP and 1 or 2 DE and some honors classes. I know one who didn’t get in on reconsideration but just got accepted as transfer after one semester at diff college for spring at UP. The one who didn’t get in called admissions after the reconsideration and were told had they chosen xyz major (believe education) would have gotten in but only one chance with reconsideration. Good luck. It was tough waiting on decision this year for my younger child and know the reconsideration is also nerve wracking if PSU is your top choice.
