Yes they’re totally dissociated (Schreyer admission is Schreyer based, not Admissions) yet I can’t think of someone who got both. ![]()
General rule of thumb is to expect nothing. ![]()

Thank you for your response. Is it worth calling PSU about or should I just wait and see what happens with Schreyer?
Calling about what? Provost award? I think that is given by colleges so you would call Smeal directly to ask.
I would wait about Schreyer. They will give you a decision date soon and all decisions are released as a batch.
Yes, sorry. I was wondering if I should call and ask about any Smeal specific awards that my son may be qualified for, like provost
There is nothing wrong with asking! I would find the Smeal admissions person and go from there.
I just emailed them. After reading your post, I am not feeling very confident about my son’s chances with Schreyer.
Schreyer is all about the essays. So if he wrote compelling essays and had good leadership, he has a chance. (This assumes the deep dive transcript review doesn’t work against him).
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Schreyer is very competitive and closer to a black box admissions process like private schools. (As opposed to purely stats based).
Honestly? He can do 90% of the same things outside of Schreyer that he can do in SHC. Many many many kids are successful without Schreyer. It’s a bonus. He will be fine without! (And if he gets in, it’s a bonus !)
He has a high GPA. test score, and rigor…..He has a lot of leadership roles and won DECA Glass twice. I am praying that helps. I do think he did a great job on his essays. We shall see! Thank you for this info!
For those OOS students that were admitted EA to Smeal (UP summer or fall start), can you please share what your highest level of math was? And stats (GPA, SAT/ACT)? Trying to figure out if student should take Calculus Honors vs. AP Calc (school also offers Calculus A which is the “standard level”). Thank you and congrats!
OOS S26 was enrolled in AP Calc AB for 12th grade (so no grades in SRAR or AP Exam score) but completed Pre-Calc in 11th grade. He did have multiple Finance, Investments DE courses. Rigor: 9 AP, 3 DE.
Earlier discussions here have recommended to have AP Calc or AP Stat, a bit unclear whether for 11th or 12th grade.
Calculus is more important than Stats. If your school offers 3 levels of calculus, choose the one that’s most appropriate to the student’s strengths and schedule, keeping in mind that college applications are often like having an extra course throughout Fall. The grade senior year won’t count as long as it’s a C or higher ( for admissions, 12th grade results don’t count, so only the taking of calculus matters, not the grade - of course, for subsequent classes, mastery of the HS material would matter).
That being said, AP calc AB with score of 4 or 5 allows students to skip Math 140 (Calculus) or 110 (Calculus for business, which is weedout) and allows them to simply take a 2-credit Applied Calc level 2 class which shows Calc on the transcript and makes it easier to fulfill the Math requirement (could matter for some majors such as finance or if the student intends to have a quantitative minor in IST, data science..)… or simply be done with it.
AP Stats with a score of 4 or 5 waives Stats 200 but this class can be “retaken” without much risk.
OOS S26 currently taking Multi-Variable Calc and will take the Calc BC AP in May. Took Calc AB AP with 5 last year. Also currently taking Stats AP and got 800 on math SAT. EA Smeal (Finance) UP, fall start
