The way you described works for everyone
.
daughter got in for civil engineering fall 2025 up. relieved mom here.
Sheās in! Fall at UP! Undecided engineering. Appreciate all the words of encouragement as we waited the long wait.
update i got accepted for smeal fall 2029 at UP!! im so happy and relieved right nowā:face_holding_back_tears:![]()
Interesting that all these late admits are UP. Congrats to you all!
Congrats to those who got fall UP! Unfortunately, my son did not. Heās OOS, 1310 submitted SAT, Biology, UW 3.7, 6APs. He got 2+2 Altoona but he wonāt do that being OOS.
@MYOS1634, suggestions on major requests for reconsideration.
Congratulations to all getting acceptance tonight!
Seeing fall start acceptances at UP in competitive majors, should be reassuring to those still waiting for a decision despite high stats. Just hang in there.
Thereās clearly some method to the madness - i.e. PSU Admissions ![]()
Fall admit to UP! 3.7 w, 3.5 uw. A few APās and a few honors. 32 ACT. Bellisario with intended major of film production
What does he want to do with Biology?
Would he be interested in BBH (HHD), Anthropological Sciences/Biological Anthropology option in CLA, or several other programs in Ag (Food science if heās calculus-ready with a strong background in bio/chem).
D25 Admitted UP summer start for microbiology! PSU is her #2, but she is super excited! Congrats everyone with acceptances tonight! ![]()

Thanks for your advice. He wants to be a doctor, so pre-med.
BBH (HD) looks like it would fit him. Is that easier to get into?
My daughter has similar stats and was accepted microbiology but said sheād be willing to do summer so they accepted her for that. Her friend did not said she would do summer and got branched for biology. Her friend is going to request reconsideration for summer start with the same major so that may be an option if he wants to stick with the same major.
BBH is actually better for premeds than Biology (premed pre-reqs only include 2 general biology courses vs. 5 Chemistry/related) . Itās not easier to graduate from but less competitive simply because many students donāt know about it hence donāt apply.
Biochemistry would also be better for premed but would require checking Summer not Fall, and if he already had both in his EA app then itās probably not worth risking it.
Whatās his plan B (as 90% freshmen would-be premeds never make it to med school⦠all premeds need a solid plan B) - this may help him find his optimal new major.
He put that he would do summer and still got 2+2 Altoona. I appreciate your response and congratulations to your daughter! My son would have loved to do summer.
Thank you so much for your suggestion. Whatās the best way for him to state his request via email?
I was also told when we toured another school, it is better to choose a more specialized major bc not as many kids apply for the subcategories, so microbiology or biochemistry would have less applicants than say biology or chemistry, mainly bc kids donāt know as much about them. I was told there may not be as many spots but there arenāt as many applicants either so they tend to be easier admits.
Yay!! So happy!!
He should highlight his SAT math score, his science background including AP scores if any, his highest math class by graduation (precalculus, calculus, MVCā¦) and state clearly heās applying for UP, Summer or Fall or Summer, zzz Major.
He can send the email to his Admission rep.
This way, no regrets.
Thereās also a button to enter the new reconsideration info about Summer, major⦠(no supporting points/documents needed) through the portal.
Just telling what I know: you can write all you want in an email, but theyād ask you to submit the request through the portal. I doubt your email communications and details provided therein would have any bearing on admission decision. Emails are good to seek any clarifications you may need though.
Your request will be reviewed only against your requested major, and the details they already have. They will not consider any other supplementary information. I was told this by the AOs on a call.
Update for those interestedā¦portal updated tonight with reconsideration major and campus. It took 4 workings days.
