Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Agribusiness would be a decent possibility - degree in collaboration between Ag (in this case think Coca Cola, Nestlé, Cargill… Rather than Animals&fields) and Smeal. Highly employable.

No to Schreyers. Looking for pre med path. Got in Eberly Behrend at Erie Campus 2+2 Biology Major. Preference is University Park Campus for pre med path. Wants to pursue medicine.
Thank you again !

We are OOS

 Premeds always need a plan B (since very few would-be premeds make it to med school). This plan B path may help choose which major below is best.

In any case, ask for reconsideration, UP, Fall (OR Fall or Summer), for one of these:
https://bulletins.psu.edu/undergraduate/colleges/health-human-development/biobehavioral-health-bs/#programrequirementstext
In order to be premed with this major, the student would need to add Math 140B (Calculus&Biology), 1 from Sociology 1/3/5, Spanish for Health professions or 1 post 003 foreign language “Communication” course, Biochemistry + judicious choices in Physics, Chemistry&Biology where courses can be freely chosen and included in a list of credits that are a key part of the major.

https://bulletins.psu.edu/undergraduate/colleges/agricultural-sciences/immunology-infectious-disease-bs/
In order to be premed with this major, the student would have to add 1 from Sociology 1/3/5 + Psych 100 + Bioethics+ Spanish for Health professions or a post 003 foreign language “Communication” course+ Neurobiology (all science from premed pre-reqs are included in the major).

https://bulletins.psu.edu/undergraduate/colleges/agricultural-sciences/pharmacology-toxicology-bs/#programrequirementstext
In order to be premed with this major, the student would have to add 1 from Sociology 1/3/5 + Psych 100 + Bioethics+ Spanish for Health professions or a post 003 foreign language “Communication” course+ Physics 250-251.

Only if you request Summer:

In order to be premed with this major, the student would have to add 1 from Sociology 1/3/5 + Psych 100 + Bioethics+ Spanish for Health professions or a post 003 foreign language “Communication” course+ Chem 113 + Biostats.

That seems like a total outlier. I’m so surprised he didn’t get UP Fall. I’m sorry as that must be disappointing.

Thank you @MYOS1634 will look into. You think better than DUS and taking business courses?

If he wants to get in and attend UP, yes, better odds.
If he has other choices and doesn’t mind rolling the dice, then he can apply DUS, keeping in mind odds are low due to GPA/rigor combination.
Both are good choices depending on what he sees as best for him. :grinning:

For reference, the first year in DUS or preSmeal would essentially be
Fall: +English 15/30H, World Language 002, +Calculus, +Macroeconomics
Spring: +Communication, World Language 003, +Statistics, +Microeconomics, science or humanities gen ed (or +Intro to Management)

+= Count for entrance to major, MUST be C or higher
A-B cumulative average to have a shot at Smeal

What??? 1550 and 3.93 To a branch when gpa and test score is pretty much all they look at? This makes no sense other than yield protection but don’t get why they would turn down oos tuition in this caliber student over potential yield?

My daughter applied early action and has not received a decision. Anyone else?

Yes same

That does seem crazy. What major did he apply to? How was his rigor of classes? The main two things PSU looks at is gpa and rigor. Test scores are considered but not necessary.

@CPsMom25 @Bear074

Are you positive that all information was submitted by Nov. 1st? SRAR was confirmed, test scores were received, etc?

If so, I encourage you to call when they re-open … maybe even send an email to admissions if anyone is responding to emails over break.

In the past, I think Architecture and Nursing didn’t always get an answer by the EA date because they are direct entry programs. But I would think you should have received communication to that effect?

Bummer. Frustrating.

@CPsMom25 sounds like your son received admission to his ED school and paid a deposit. And wrote essays about how glad he won’t be attending Penn State. Maybe his application was pulled since he accepted somewhere else already?

Yes, an Architecture and Art EA applicant. No communication at all but website does say they have everything that they need. The wait continues.

Ugh. I would call and confirm. I think Arch is one of those outliers.

Looks like there is information here. According to this, they don’t mention EA, only priority. So might be different? There is a contact email listed - worth checking with them.

Not that I owe an explanation but we withdrew all the apps but thought since psu was supposed to release, we weren’t withdrawing that one…maybe it’s just because my husband and I are both alum and wanted to see him get this acceptance…

That’s sweet ◡̈

This maybe repetitive, but could not dig up past posts… my daughter got Summer DUS campus. She did originally check off Summer. But she wants to start fall now. WE are OOS. So for reconsideration, does she change the major for Fall Start? I am worried that we might lose her original acceptance if we ask for reconsideration.

Yes. She should select another (preferably less competitive) major and not select summer option.
Don’t worry about losing the original offer. That’s always available, even if you’re granted your reconsideration request.

So. We haven’t heard back from 2 of our state schools yet, but my child is bound and determined to go to Penn State as an OOS student. He was admitted to Behrend for Poli Sci on the 2+2, and asked for reconsideration to either Harrisburg or UP summer. Due to the demand on UP, I’m banking on him getting Harrisburg.

Main reasoning - he doesn’t want to run into anyone from HS in college (biting my tongue when trying to talk to him about it). Either Behrend or Harrisburg is going to be on par financially with our state schools - but I’m worried he won’t get the college “experience”. Does anyone have insight on the college experience at Behrend or Harrisburg? Considering he’s poli sci, I’m sure Harrisburg would be better, but the campus looks TINY on the map.
