Nothing here! Still there

Not here either.

Can we expect decisions over this weekend or will we most likely wait until Monday?

Nope. Still there

I think Monday at 7 pm is our next stop on this anxiety train! Have a great weekend!! Go PSU (beat Oregon)!

Does PSU release decisions today?

I scrolled back and it looks like people did receive decisions on Friday (button disappeared) and email came at 12 am (Saturday)

Two years ago my daughter applied for nursing. She got her second choice campus (Altoona) and was bummed - she always wanted to go to UP. I graduated from PSU and I guess I brainwashed them. She contacted admissions to see if they could look again, but was told it would be same result unless she wanted to try a different major. She wanted nursing, though, and not to pay for a different degree and then pay for nursing, too. I do know of people who were willing to switch majors and do second degree nursing after graduating.

She decided to go to Altoona, though, and she is in a D3 sport there and likes it. I’m sure she would still rather be at UP, but she bleeds blue and white and didn’t want to go anywhere else. She and her friends drive to UP for events. (And next year her brother will be at UP so they can hang out there together).

Besides Altoona, there are other campuses that have nursing- Behrend, Scranton, Schuylkill, Mont Alto, Fayette. Willingness for summer session does not help with nursing admissions
at least that’s what it says in their website. From what I have seen, it is the hardest major to get into at Penn State because they only yield 160 and there is no other way in
you cannot transfer in from DUS and cannot do 2+2
good luck. I hope she gets in! It is so frustrating. I wish there was at least 2+2 for nursing.

Everyones TO still there?

It’s just confusing since they told us on the phone that we can ask for reconsideration without a change of major. So she was hoping to ask for both - reconsideration for nursing w new info and if not, then kinesiology. Can she state that in her letter

yes

The issue is that you have to change something, so if not major then which campus or accept to start in the summer.
except AFAIK you can’t apply for Summer start for Nursing and it doesn’t sound like if she gets Altoona she’d want to switch to Behrend (the other full fledged 4-year campus with dorms and campus life, vs. The others are mostly commuter/suitcase and basically function the way the CCs->flagship path works in other states. Harrisburg is another full fledged campus but it doesn’t have Nursing AFAIK.)

You could update the scores now if you chose to have the tests considered.

Sure, she can state that in her letter, but AFAIK they don’t look at senior grades, just senior rigor, and it seems a bit risky to me because odds are near-certain they won’t reconsider her for both – Nursing again then Kinesiology. There’s one reconsideration chance, not two.

What would matter most to her, Nursing (even if at Altoona) or location with priority to UP above all else?

You can email PSU Admissions and ask whether you can follow the process you described, what would happen.

It seems to me they won’t reconsider her for two different majors, especially if one was already denied, but if she’s okay risking it and getting denied for Nursing or getting Nursing Behrend instead of Nursing Altoona, thus not getting an acceptance at UP even for Kinesiology, feel free - do report back here if you can, since I’m sure it would interest quite a few people.

Fortunately there are several direct admission Nursing programs in PA so if the plan backfires she should be okay (do insist she apply to lots of such programs though).

Has anyone heard back from communications undecided? Is communications undecided less competitive?

It’s normally competitive for Penn State, so it’s a match/low match if you have a 3.6-3.7 unweighted and solid rigor in Humanities/social sciences; additionally, if you took the SAT and got 600-650+ in English it’s a plus.
:muscle::hugs: Stay strong and be patient, within 10 work days, you’ll know. :muscle::muscle:

Nursing is so broad. If she doesn’t get what she wants & isn’t happy she should consider another college that wants her. My son loves PS UP - but said if he doesn’t get in Smeal it’s fine he had already been accepted to other amazing Universities. Good luck though - she definitely seems eager :four_leaf_clover:

Did she get her decision or are you just planning in case? They told you to write a letter? I know there’s a “reconsideration request” option on the application portal now. I clicked on it and there are FAQ. One of them addresses that there is a process to appeal an admissions decision based on extenuating circumstances. It says if you would like to request an appeal of your admission decision to send an email to admissions@psu.edu with the subject line “Admissions Review Committee appeal request.” So that is different from reconsideration, which is an updated campus or program. If you think there are extenuating circumstances that would make a difference, I say try that.

What are the chances for communications undecided with a 3.4 unweighted but all honors English classes and classes like sociology, psychology, etc. Test-optional.

Ahh
yes, I think you are correct. Thank you!
