Did you make that call or did you have your child? I feel like this is a lot for the student to do it but at the same time, they need to be able to communicate what theyâre looking for. Thanks.
If you get admitted for Summer, it means you were already evaluated for Fall and didnât meet their standard.
So if you want to start in the Fall, you need to choose a less competitive major - and thereâs no guarantee you wonât be offered Summer (or 2+2) depending on your academic background, ie., rigorĂGPA. But reconsideration for another major is a chance - I can try and see if there are majors that may be better matches.
Whatâs your highest math? Highest foreign language? Science classes taken? APs? Subjects where you have As Jr/Sr years?

Hi, do you recommend that the student makes these calls to the AO?
You can âmodelâ the phone call with your child (or have a few written notes) beforehand but they should be able to do it themselves. They can also write an email.

My daughter just received her acceptance to Penn State - University Park - for fall 2025 into Smeal with a marketing major and sheâs beyond excited! Weighted avg 96 - didnât submit test scores - tons of extracurriculars - one AP class. We are out of state so now need to figure out the financial portion!

My D25 has warned me to not call any AO office; she wants to be in charge

Itâs quite an ordeal for me to explain her what I learn in this group and convince her to act on it.
In one way I like that.
So, short answer: PSU likely doesnât care, but better your student communicates. That ways they take the accountability of their decisions and consequences- personal opinion.

Never thought about this⊠b/c we always just assumed PSU was a shoe-in⊠being in-state, top of class, ECs, 99% SAT, work, volunteer, etc. ⊠but what happens if get to Dec 24th for EA and letâs say its NOT an acceptâŠ

Does PSU flat out reject OR do they defer to RD (whatever that is b/c it seems like rolling admissions).

Is the biomedical engineering department uber competitive? Uncertain but DS25 has way better stats/application than his brother DS23 who was accepted to biomedical engineering UP.
This is becoming slightly awkward.

Iâve been following this thread and I believe at this point the majority of results released are not engineering - not sure about PSU but in many similar colleges, Engineering has its separate admissions procedure mostly due to the requirements of math and physics. So I wouldnât worry too much.
It may also be less likely for someone who applied engineering to switch major or campus so PSU may just decide to release the majority of engineering results all at once. Just my guess though.
Now I kinda understood why PSU does this way - releasing some results every day in order to have some spots filled in commonwealth campuses as well as less-known majors. Not easy job I have to say.

If he asks for reconsideration with a less competitive major for Fall start, does that jeopardize his UP summer start status in any way?

If he doesnât get UP fall Biomedical Engineering, heâll be considered for summer in the same app if you check it, and if not then he will get a branch offer, and then you can ask for reconsideration under a different major. You wish know his stats are above then 90% in gpa and SAT so heâs getting into UP. Whatâs his list ?
Hi! My son was accepted but to Altoona campus which we would not do. He submitted the review request and changed his major from Liberal Arts to Communications. He also checked off summer. We are hoping communications is easier to get in. What are your thoughts on that? Also, they donât allow us to submit the review request without picking a second campus as an option. But isnât that the same thing that will happen all over again? They will just give him Altoona again?
His list meaning colleges applied? PSU and if Schreyerâs then heavy consideration. Remainders are the likes of Pitt HC, Duke, JHU, UVA, CWRU, GT, CMU, VT, Vandy⊠but top of list is PSU SHC.
