Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Also still waiting for engineering. And we submitted scores

My daughter decided to update her application in October from including her test scores to going TO. I am wondering if this delays a decision at all. Hopefully, if it does, it is up to December 24 and not beyond.

Sorry not a reply, it is meant to be a question to those who may know.

My daughter changed her TO the first week of December and she got a decision on Dec. 11. If the option to change is still there, I do not think it will cause a delay.

With some engineering trickling in today (congrats), it is gonna be long long day between now and tomorrow at this time…sigh! Hang in there my fellow engineering friends…I am rooting for you!!

Fellow BME applicant here - do you (or anyone) know if I get my decision on December 24, if I can still be considered for early action reapplication? Not sure if that makes sense, I can try to clarify if needed. I’m getting worried. I also always assumed I’d be admitted to PSU, but the admissions process is so stressful I’m beginning to doubt myself!

Yes, this process is stressful indeed.
So, for anyone applying for reconsideration after receiving their original decision, the timeline may not matter.
The reconsideration request form is clearly stating that they’d get to review them only after going through all EA applicants first.
Hope that helps.

I have access to Lionpath! Does this mean I am admitted? When can I see the official acceptance letter? Thank you!

Have many of Smeal admits been released?

The best way to know for sure is for him or you to call - it’s a general question so they should have an official answer for you.

His best bet is to apply for Italian - guessing there are few applicants with 4years of Honors Italian. His 1st semester would be Italian 003, Italian 130 (in English, counts for international Gen Ed), English 15/30H, Psychology 100, Stats 200: all would count for Gen Ed or the Psych major. With As/Bs first semester, he could ask to switch to the Psych major and be 100% on track. :grinning:
So, reconsideration, UP, Fall or Summer, Italian BA.

Don’t worry. With top grades, rigor, and scores, he’ll get in.
Schreyer is a whole other kettle of fish - 300 students across all colleges, out of ~10,000 freshmen.

The decision letter will appear under communications in about an hour, don’t worry if it takes longer. Good luck!

They will review him for Bellisario (any specific major?) Fall, then Summer, then alternate campus (Altoona if you checked Altoona).
So they won’t offer him Altoona again if he qualifies for his major at UP. :crossed_fingers:

Typically, students with 3.45 and under would be admitted to a branch campus, students with 3.5-3.65 would start in the Summer, with some adjusting for rigor (15+ AP/IB/DE/Honors isn’t the same as 3 Honors 2 APs… except for students from rural high schools who don’t have a choice and took the most rigorous curriculum available to them.)
The reason is that UP is huge and the learning curve brutal, geared toward kids with As in a rigorous prep program. Their data show odds of success are greater at branch campuses like Altoona and so are a better transition for B/B+ students.
However branch campuses don’t make sense for OOS students, who will find colleges with similar or better academics&campus life in-state, at a lower cost.
Ultimately, ask for reconsideration :crossed_fingers: and keep your fingers crossed.

You will be able to ask for reconsideration as long as you’re changing something in your request - a less competitive major, Summer…
While you wait, you can use your time productively by going through the Engineering majors not just in COE but also in Ag and EMS and decide which one would be a great ā€œreconsiderationā€ major.

Accepted to Mechanical Engineering, UP, summer session. Just saw the letter pop up. Good to have options. Need to decide between Pitt and PSU on strengths and weakness while we wait for others. Thanks

Yes, DUS is ā€œpivot to anythingā€ and is thus quite competitive.

What’s his highest math? Highest foreign language? Science classes taken? APs? Subjects where he has As Jr/Sr years?

I’m afraid 3.3 is going to be difficult for UP but if he would attend, no reason not to try, he won’t be worse off than today :hugs:

My son was accepted to engineering, university park tonight - thanks for all your help! Good luck to everyone!

New here and appreciative of all the info and now feeling a bit overwhelmed. My student applied to School of Engineering but still does not have a decision BUT received a booklet from Behrend Engineering today. Am I overthinking it?
