Wow…this is going to move outside of Centre County(the county protects PSU at all costs) and into the hands of the Attorney General.

State College dubbed Pennsylvania’s ‘drunkest city’…
http://triblive.com/state/pennsylvania/12991241-74/state-college-dubbed-pennsylvanias-drunkest-city

“Penn State unveiled a host of new, more stringent alcohol-related policies for fraternities and sororities this school year in response to February’s death of sophomore fraternity pledge Timothy Piazza, 19. Authorities said members of that fraternity, now closed, gave Piazza 18 drinks in under an hour and a half and waited 12 hours to call for help after he suffered multiple injuries.”

I hope these new policies work. Other leading universities have shut down Greek Life Activities. Time will tell I suppose.

IU - that’s a big one. Went further than Ohio State to sororities too, wow.

A birthday, an overdose and another Penn State fraternity facing charges…more details

PSU has a real problem on their hands…leadership had better step up and lead.

“Frat members allegedly served the woman more alcohol per drink, because it was her birthday. The fraternity ran out of soda at an unknown time and began to serve shots of vodka. The woman told police she thinks she had five drinks inside the fraternity.”

@bester1 - Where did you read that sororities were also suspended. I read the article and although the title says it, there is nothing in the text except this “The suspension affects the nearly 30 member chapters of IU’s IFC. It does not effect sororities, mutli-cultural chapters or historically black Greek organizations, which have different governing bodies.”

@jpc763 - right here: http://www.whas11.com/news/local/indiana/indiana-university-suspends-fraternity-and-sorority-activity/495174886

…though that’s not exactly right since the sororities weren’t suspended (though any social life that includes alcohol is, because that happened at fraternities).

from the article…
“IU becomes the seventh university to suspend the activities of fraternities and sororities, joining the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State University, Ball State University, Louisiana State University and Penn State University.”

from the article…
“IU becomes the seventh university to suspend the activities of fraternities and sororities, joining the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State University, Ball State University, Louisiana State University and Penn State University.”

The article is incorrect. I suspect is should say “and/or” sororities. I have personal knowledge of the situation at IU. The decision to restrict social functions was made by the IFC leaders themselves. The university had nothing to do with it. And, the sororities are not impacted. So, if a sorority wants to hold a formal, they are free to do so. Since the fraternity Presidents voted to hold no socials with alcohol until March 1, it will impact the sororities because they presumably won’t be invited over. However, there are no sanctions being placed on the NPC chapters at IU.

Frat alum files suit against Beta Theta Pi on behalf of members…
http://www.centredaily.com/news/local/education/penn-state/article188404954.html

Wow…we are just begining to understand the complexity of this case…former frat bros suing each other because they couldn’t give up the past and grow up…even though they former members were aware that this was a dry house…I wonder if those former bros will be charged with corruption of minors before this is all said and done and how the Piazza case turns out…unbelievable…

“In the last few years, the chapter and its active members began returning to their early 2000s ways of excessive alcohol consumption and engaging in alcohol-related hazing at the house. Most notably, (they) sought to do away with the house’s ‘dry’ status after it had been reconstituted,” Haverstick wrote.

@bester1 You are the bestest at keeping us abreast of how this is developing.

It sounds like they were serious about the crackdown this time but that fraternity brothers really cannot police themselves even knowing they are being watched.

@MYOS1634 …yes that is what seemingly is happening…and the Alumni brothers can’t stay out of it reliving the glory days as well. Hopefully the crackdown will yield long term benefits and safety for the students.
