Penn State Sandusky scandal

I believe there must be put in place, and this applies, in my opinion to all institutions which self-police, an appropriate place to make a report when the charge is against an employee of the institution. An outside organization which does not report first to the institution itself.

If the charge is against an employee of the institution, it is only common sense to know that those who are doing the investigation have a de facto conflict of interest.

Also, I think your above statement should be amended to read, “In my opinion, there is no reason…” But, I’m sure that is what you meant.

going- in 1998 the prosecutor determined that they could not make a case. We will never know if that was true or not.

I believe there was only one witness to the rape. Others now claim that witness did not tell them that was what he witnessed. We need to find out why they did not go forward. We need to determine who was involved in that decision. Potentially we are blaming people that do not deserve to be blamed based on what they knew or were told happened.

poet- yes and that would apply to situations when a town official is accused so the town police are not involved. I think your standard is one that should apply. It avoids the appearance of a conflict of interest.

We are saying that as an organization they have ways of not providing a hunting ground, a safe haven for someone they know has a problem with bondaries with little boys. There are ways to do these things. And if these men decided to maybe pay attention to Jerry, and didn’t create an environement where people feared for their jobs so witnesses felt safe to report what they saw, then maybe fewer kids would have been assaulted. And maybe if these men, who seem to be able to control quite bit didn’t welcome sanduskyninto there campus, volunteer for his charity, and when they saw him with little boys, say, hey, good job, maybe fewer little boys have been victims

And maybe all that money going from the charity to Penn state to run overnight camps, which to me doesn’t sound very charitible on Penn states part, maybe there wouldn’t be yet another conflict. Money speaks…

Well, others now claim that witness didn’t tell them because it’s what they need to say. Common sense says they would have asked that witness what happened. I’m not blaming any particular person; Paterno admits hearing about it, as do a couple of others. Doesn’t look so good for them.

And why do you say only one witness? Because the janitor has dementia? I guess in a court of law that is so.

The janitor was not a witness to the 2002 incident, but a different one.

goingmyway, in response to your post #3001…

My theory as to why Sadnusky wasn’t chanrged has to do with a huge mystery that is still not answered. The DA mysteriously “disappeared” and left no trace. His computer was found at the bottom of some river and he had been investigating how to destroy a hard drive, but his body has never been found. He wasn’t known to be suicidal. What happened back in 1998? That unanswered question haunts me and I am certain plays a huge role in this case.

After the investigation in 1998, Sandusky “honorably” retired in 1999.
After the “alleged” rape in 2002, they took away his keys to the locker room.
I would extrapolate that the next punishment may have been to revoke his campus parking pass…that is, if this didn’t blow up in their faces the way it did.

This is one quote from the above article (jan 2011) on the missing D.A. The quote is from his nephew. It describes one of three scenerios they were looking into.

"Homicide: “He was in the midst of being a part of the largest drug ring bust in central PA history – a heroin deal,” Tony Gricar said. “But it was a [small] amount compared to anywhere else, so there was no point to off a prosecutor or, as some have speculated, for him to go into witness protection.”

there is much background info if you are interested. There is also much speculaton.

LOL! Nice humor, way to lighten the board.

thanks for the article Sax, wonder if the Gricar investigation will be reopened, in light of the possibility of it being connected to the the Sandusky/PSU scandal?

PSU has hired an ex FBI agent to head the investigation.

Louis Freeh is not an Ex-FBI agent - he is the Ex-Director of the FBI (and a former judge).

I posted the article about the missing D.A. so that people would understand that life as a D.A was more than working on the Sandusky case. He also worked on the biggest drug bust in the history of the county around that time.

The article is interesting if you want to know more.

I stand corrected, Glido.

I think the hiring of Freeh is a good step. I look forward to reading the report that the inquiry produces. Let the chips fall where they may.

Okay, now I’ve got a problem with Happy Valley. Parents and Kids.

It shows you how messed up people can get when a football team is treatedmlike a religion

Unbelievable. It gets more surreal by the minute.

I think Sandusky needs to please guilty, because a trial woulld be a nightmare for all involved.
