Penn State Sandusky scandal

Apparently Sandusky has been transferred to a Penn county jail because he failed to make bail. Finally, it’s about time!

I just saw the video of Sandusky being brought from his home on this new arrest. He’s wearing a Penn State jacket over his shoulders. This guy is disgusting.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57338657/sandusky-jailed-on-new-child-sex-abuse-charges/

I don’t think it would be in the best interest of the victims if this never comes to trial. There have been similar cases in which the accused gets killed or commits suicide and it is difficult for the victims because they never feel they had a voice or a day in court. As difficult as it is for them to go through, I imagine it is affirming to see the perpetrator punished through the judicial system. If they are, indeed, punished.

Jail is not a friendly place for those accused of child molestation no matter what safety measures are in place. There will indeed be some punishment coming.

And another link about Sandusky trying to get a volunteer coaching position at Juniata College.

[Sandusky tried volunteering as coach for Juniata College - NCAA Football - Sporting News](http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2011-12-07/sandusky-tried-volunteering-as-coach-for-juniata-college?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl6|sec3_lnk3|118256)

Glad to see Juniata checked him out, said no thanks, and followed up w/coaches when Sandusky later showed up in the press box.

The fact that Juniata college made that decision based on a background check speaks to Penn State’s choices. As recent as in his NYT interview, Sandusky claimed to still have keys to the locker room.

“I bet the football coach gets a contract of at least $1 million a year and would not be shocked if was $2 million. What is the school president paid?”

Spanier’s salary was $813,000.

The wife … omg! How in heaven’s name can any woman, much less a mother, turn a deaf ear to a screaming child, any screaming child? A mother! In her own house! That just makes me sick to my stomach. Horrible, horrible, horrible people they are. Horrible.

Too bad I’m opposed to torture on principle. Someone talk me into making an exception for him – and her.

^^^

Is there any possibility that his wife could be charged with anything?

Before Mrs. S gets skewered on that point, you might consider that sound does not always travel upward well. I can’t hear my kids when they’re in our finished basement and they can’t hear me, even when I’m calling from the top of the stairs, unless the doors are open. The marvels of insulation and soundproofing sheetrock.

Not only that but there was nothing that said definitively that the wife was, for sure, upstairs, if I read it correctly. Just that it was the boys understanding that she was.

If she was and was aware that her husband was raping a boy in the basement, well, I would certainly think that she would be charged. If it could be substantiated, that is.

Even if it’s demonstrated she didn’t hear that particular boy screaming, what exactly did she think her husband was doing spending time alone with 10 year old boys in their basement, time after time, year after year?

Going the Second Mile.

Victim 9 says that he was put in the bedroom in the basement at the Sandusky home, even though there were empty bedrooms above ground. He was told to eat his meals in the basement. He was told to stay in the basement. Sandusky periodically came down and raped him.

Are we sure they can’t charge Mrs. Sandusky? What was she thinking when her husband was keeping one little boy after another in her basement, not even letting the kids come up to the family dinner table for meals? What would be the innocent explanation?

It sounds like Mrs. S was banished from the basement; one of the new victims said that she “never” came down there. Victim 9 says that he always stayed overnight in the basement bedroom, even though there were several unoccupied bedrooms on the main floor. He ate in the basement as well, and the food was brought to him by Sandusky. Jerry apparently wanted to keep his wife and his victims as far apart as possible.

Even if she didn’t hear the victim screaming on that occasion, it’s impossible that she didn’t know something was up. Think how weird life was in the Sandusky household: Her husband made a practice of bringing children home on a regular basis, whisking them past her to the basement, spending inordinate amounts of time down there, not allowing them to eat at the table like a guest should, and forbidding her presence – how could she not have known something very strange was going on?

^great minds think alike. this is so disturbing all around. how did noone ever acknowledge that the emperor was not wearing any clothes???

Talerico called this a horrific case, one where no doubt more victims will continue to come forward, but he said there is a silver lining: victims of abuse will hopefully come to realize they can and should come forward.

“The story is out, it’s over, it’s ok to talk, there isn’t going to be judgement, there doesn’t have the be embarassment, there doesn’t have to be shame that the process has begun and it’s the process toward accountability,” said Talerico.

Wish I could believe that there isn’t going to be judgment. The one young man who was imho bullied out of high school clearly has not found that it’s ok to talk. And if it goes to trial I think these victims will be put through additional victimizing. I suspect he’ll plead out before it goes to trial, what do you all think?

The parallels between this case and the church cases is staggering. Th hero worship, the larger than life perpetrator whom no one wants to recognize as a monster, the politics. It is so crazy that so many people were around this, knew about it and continued to allow children to be in harm’s way. In Sandusky’s wife’s case, her own children and grandchildren! And let’s not forget the high school where victim 1 used to go. They are on this list of criminals, too, IMO.
