Penn State Sandusky scandal

“And the fact that JoePa and all of PSU (Spanier, and others, including the missing DA) did nothing, allowed Sandusky to continue to believe he was right.”

Looks to me like they did far more than “nothing”, but engaged in a criminal conspiracy to make sure the truth didn’t come out. There was a lot of money riding on it.

That’s right mini. I totally agree. Information was withheld when should have been reported and properly investigated.

Earlier Tuesday, Amendola told reporters to “stay tuned” to find out if Sandusky would take the stand himself, comparing the case to a soap opera. Asked which soap opera, defense attorney Joe Amendola initially said “General Hospital,” then “All My Children.”

I hope the jurors were as disgusted as I was with Amendola’s attempt at humor

^ Unbelievable! No shame.

Not the brightest bulb either to state that publicly. No wonder the defense has been run the way it has.

I just read that the prosecution is asking for the tape of the edited parts of Sandusky’s interview with Costa.

Dottie took the stand, and said her husband was a wonderful man and yes the boys often slept over. Said basemen wasn’t sound proofed so she would have heard screaming. Un huh.

One witness said on of the victims had a reputation form dishonesty and embellishing stories. Um, I would say to that, well, either a result of abuse, or sandusky picked boysnwith certain traits.

The histrionic disorder claim is more damning then helpful. Need for attention, can’t handle relationships, sexual forwardness…

So everyone says sandusky is a great guy, good with kids, he has been married for years, ran a charity and camps, and yet he has a disorder that caused him to write weird love letters and look for attention from little boys as is best friends? Can the two sanduskys be reconciled?

Dottie also said when she came into hotel room and she saw the scene whereone victim claims Sandusky was trying to force boy to have oral sex, they were fully clothed. One can have oral sex and just unzip the pants. No need to be I dressed at all. Does she. Ot even realize what she is saying?

Seriously?

I am curious as to why the prosecution has not delved into the reasons why Sandusky abruptly stepped down from his coaching position at PSU–get the people who were close to him up on the stand to testify as to whether they knew of any circumstances behind that unexpected and totally unforseen action–they might lie but at least they would be under oath. There is also plenty of evidence showing that the other coaches and administrators had a pattern of keeping violations secret and demanding that no negative publicity about those involved in the football program be ever reported–there was a very clear pattern and history of unethical behavior.

Why would you put them on the stand? Anything they’d have to say would be hearsay. And, as you say, they are likely substantially ethically compromised, if not outright criminals. (Sandusky is sick, and what kind of “criminal intent” he could form is unclear to me; the others, beginning with JoePa, would seem to have engaged in a criminal conspiracy, and had a lot of money riding on it. Why would the prosecutor, who is trying to convict Sandusky, want to put these criminals on the stand?)

I hate the word sick when it comes to people like Sandusky, it implies they had an excuse and can maybe get better. He is a monster dressed up like a caring grandpa who fooled many, but many also knew something was seriously wrong.

As for wife testimony, means very little to me. She needs to protect herself, somof course she said what she did. Even her description of clinging and conniving was creepy.

She has a very specific agenda and her version of things don’t exonerate sandusky.

Amendola has his own sordid history, impregnating and later marrying a 16 year old client…

[Jerry Sandusky?s lawyer, Joe Amendola, got a 16-year- old client pregnant and later married her - NY Daily News](http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/jerry-sandusky-lawyer-joe-amendola-a-16-year-old-client-pregnant-married-article-1.977873)

It’s not an excuse, but it likely is a fact. He likely knew that what he was “wrong” (hence subject to the law), but to what degree he could truly form criminal intent is subject to question. As to whether he can “get better” - many people with various mental illnesses find ways to manage their conditions, and their behavior. “Got better”? From a societal perspective, perhaps. But the underlying condition may not have changed.

There’s a lot of work on the treatment of sex offenders:

http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=195539

The best work seems to be done in Scandinavia.

As for the criminal conspirators, well, they reoffended every day they didn’t do what was necessary to prevent Sandusky from committing new offenses, and every day they profited financially from their conspiracy.

There’s sick scum, and then there’s criminal scum.

Well said, mini.

Accuser 4 was demanding and conniving, Dottie Sandusky testified Tuesday. “He wanted his way and he did not listen a whole lot.”

Last week, Accuser 4 testified that Jerry Sandusky attempted to molest him, but Dottie Sandusky walked in and interrupted them. She said Tuesday that she remembered the alleged incident differently. “They were just standing in the little hallway. They had clothes on,” she said.

Accuser 4 and her husband were arguing about a luncheon the youth had initially agreed to attend, then suddenly declined, she said. “Jerry was very upset … Jerry was yelling. I knew Jerry was mad. It was just the way he looked, and he said, ‘We did this for you. You got to do this’,” Sandusky said.

and this was supposed to demonstrate Sandusky’s innocent normal relationships with these boys. on what planet??

Our basement is not sound proofed and we can’t hear anything going on there from the rest of the house.

Soundproofing in the basement would have explained why his pleas got no response. The other explanation would be that Dottie heard the cries and ignored them.

imho, any wife who 100% stands by her man in light of these allegations, while fully knowing he spent so much time with these boys downstairs in her own basement is 100% lying.

Let’s be real. Any spouse who truly was unaware of his behavior, would at minimum be terribly frightened at the possibility that her husband could have done this. The fact that she flatly denies this shows she is complicit in the pretense that he was helping these poor boys.

That would be another explanation.

^an article from 2011–another example of Sandusky’s creepiness. Isn’t it just a bit strange that Mr. and Mrs. Sandusky adopted only boys (5 of them)?

From the article:

“My son was afraid of Jerry. If Jerry said don’t talk, he didn’t talk. I would sit back and watch when Jerry would show up, how excited Matt was,” she said. “And then, as time went on, I would watch the same kid hide behind the bedroom door and say, ‘Mom, tell him I’m not home.’”

“Four months after moving into the Sandusky’s home Matt attempted suicide, along with another girl who was staying in the house, according to a report in the Patriot-News. After the suicide attempt, Terry L. Trude, a school-based probation officer, wrote a letter to a local judge asking that Matt’s care at the Sandusky home be reviewed.”

“The probation department has some serious concerns about the juvenile’s safety and his current progress in placement with the Sandusky family,” Trude wrote.

Did we expect her so say anything different? She’s is protecting herself from any civil suits.

The defense is trying to say, well no one saw it happen sp it didn’t, andante didn’t molest every kid, so it didn’t and that Sandusky is too stupid to be able to hide his deeds. He had years of practice.

I was thinking about Dottie and what is in her head. It’s possible (although I’m not a therapist and don’t even play one on TV) that she is in complete denial and truly believes, superficially anyway, that he did nothing wrong. For her to come to terms with his behavior means that she will have to face the fact that she was an accomplice and an enabler. It might just be too much for her to cope with so she has truly convinced herself that nothing happened and that she and Jerry are the real victims.
