How did it go today, Grcxx3?

LasMa - Overall good practice, I think (from what I could tell). I watched as much as I could - but it was hot, no place to sit, and no shade. Big show tomorrow night in the AlamoDome. They had a fabulous show last night (Thurs), so I am hoping it will be even better tomorrow.

I hope so! I was a dancemom, not a bandmom, but – rehearsals, competitions, shows, discomfort for Mom, nerves and jitters – yep, I can relate. Good luck to your DS.

I marched with Crossmen on baritone (I played sax in my non-DCI life though). I marched the last year Crossmen were based in PA/NJ and the first year they were based in TX. So, one year of driving to winter rehearsals and one year of flying (from VA). They are closing the gap and I am pulling hard for them to make it back to Saturday night in Indy!

what does your kid play (or spin)? I hope he has a successful rest of the summer and makes it through the season in good health!

By the time most of you are reading this, the statue of Joe Paterno will be down. Police cordoned off the area, a tarp was put up across the niche, and OPP arrived to remove it around 6:30am . 6 months to the day he died.

Pres. Ericson’s statement (the library name will stay, and he doesn’t say what they’ve decided to do with the statue as of yet)

PS - my question of the day … what about the wall and remaining structure which includes the description of Paterno as a humanitarian?

Took the statue down within ten days of the Freeh report.

Did not wait until they were able to reassemble the board to take a vote which could have taken much more time as it would have had to be advertised and gather enough members quickly for a vote.

Good for them.

One thing at a time.

It will take time to work out the legalities of cancellation of the football season. I hope they are headed in this direction. Time will tell.

I am just reading about the Paterno statue and I am very very happy that they are removing it. It is absolutely the right thing to do. I’ve been posting on this thread but have stopped reading it as I was away on vacation and spending time with my family and friends who are almost all connected with Penn State as alumni.

I don’t know how many others on this thread are connected with the university. Also I don’t know how many others have been impacted by child sexual abuse or violence. I do know that absolutely none of my friends, co-workers, or family in my PSU networks bare any resemblance so called Penn State robot people who are brainwashed football devotees who are busy sobbing about the destroyed legacy of Joe Paterno. Is there sadness? – Of course. Did my opinion change of Joe Paterno – absolutely. He fumbled the ball big-time and the lives of the victims were damaged forever by his failures. I find many of the angry PSU haters less interested in the horrors of child abuse and more motivated in bringing down a great university. Just my opinion – without knowing the personal history of the poster all I can do is share my opinion.

Do I still believe it to be a great university? Absolutely – my happy memories remain intact…it was never about football for me. My PSU diplomas (BA and MS) have served me well and have given me a good life.

As for the Board of Trustees resigning – yes I think they should all resign and give the University a fresh start and attempt to restore it’s very damaged reputation. …and for football…if it is decided to suspend the season or disband the team — I could care less for myself personally. Most PSU alumni will not be personally financially impacted by this. Penn State is located smack in the middle of the state in a very remote, rural economy very largely dependent on Penn State. Most Penn State alumni do not live anywhere near State College. Most jobs in the area of State College are indirectly affiliated with university so the residents of these small outlying towns will most definitely feel the pain of the loss of revenues attributable to the games.

I know many, many PSU alumni – family, friends, and co-workers. I know who “We Are” and who I am hasn’t changed because of this scandal. I grieve for the victims and hope that any actions taken are done primarily to give these victims some kind of hope for a better future and are not motivated to appease the growing “cult” of PSU haters. The damage done by Sandusky and the abuse of power by Penn State administrators including Joe Paterno will never go away…we can only hope that appropriate actions are taken to give hope for a brighter future.

Good news that the statue has been removed…it was the right thing to do.

Good riddance!

BTW, there is no “cult” of PSU haters. There are haters of hypocrisy, cowardice, abuse of power, dishonesty, and cover up. There are haters of powerful men turning their backs on vulnerable, disadvantaged, young boys!

The right decision was made. It’s the only way the University can move forward and look toward a great future.

By my definition, “unprecedented” would have to include far more than loss of bowl appearances or scholarships. Those things have happened before.

As is normal with a ‘breaking story’, news outlets continue to update their articles within the first few hours of posting online. The quote I pulled from the ESPN article in post #6729 no longer reflects exact text in the article. It did when I posted it. Also to note, ESPN has removed the referenced quote from CBS.

I think there is going to be much speculation today and we will only know tomorrow which ‘inside sources’ actually had the correct information.

I’ve read (but cannot attribute; right now it’s hearsay) that Penn State is not removing the statue, but simply moving it inside the stadium.

If so, they still don’t get it.

As for the unprecedented penalties, how about total loss of scholarships for those entering in 2013? That will cut thenumber of scholarships by 25% obviously impacting the quality of play but it doesn’t hurt those innocent students who are already there but it sends a message. From 2013-2016, they can only give out 75% of the usual number of scholarships. for those who were thinking of going to PSU to play football in 2013, they have plenty of time to go elsewhere…
For unprecedented, how about total disgorging of ALL profits from football for two years and donation to victims charities?
Thirdly, require all members of the university community, staff, faculty, administration, students, everyone, to take a course on reporting sexual abuse. Tell PSU that if you want to play NCAA football, this is the price you pay for your actions in the past.
The first time a PSU apologist complains that it’s too harsh, tell them to ask Sandusky’s victims if they think it’s too harsh…
