Penn State Sandusky scandal

Player number 10, scholarship 9, has left. Sophomore tight end Dakota Royer is out but will stay at school. That leaves them with 72 scholarships for this season, 58 returning for 2013.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a program source said that Royer was frustrated with the football situation at Penn State and that the coaching staff “had killed the game for him.”

[Dakota Royer leaves the football team, but stays enrolled at Penn State | Dr. Saturday - Yahoo! Sports](<a href=“Dakota Royer leaves the football team, but stays enrolled at Penn State”>Dakota Royer leaves the football team, but stays enrolled at Penn State)

He said he plans to graduate in May, *probably a good move on his part to concentrate on life after football.

[Feds Now Investigating Sandusky Pedophile Ring, Possibly Shared Boys With Others | Radar Online](Feds Now Investigating Sandusky Pedophile Ring, Possibly Shared Boys With Others)

“The new investigation is also looking at if boys from the Second Mile charity were shared by Sandusky with other men,” the source told RadarOnline.com. “The name of at least one very rich and powerful man connected to the university has come up in this new investigation.”

The 3 BOT challenging the NCAA sanctions perhaps will fall into line now. As the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for. The more they kept this all about football the more spotlight was given, more mold and stink would be uncovered.

^^^ There you go, mini. Let’s see what comes out of this.

The radaronline report is an incorrect interpretation of the feds current work. The federal investigation is now focusing on child pornography sharing, not a pedophile ring. It is a sorry day for America, but especially for Penn State, when that distinction is being made at all. I imagine the rest of a very ugly iceberg is about to be uncovered at The Second Mile.

It’s encouraging to see that investigations are still continuing, even tho Sandusky has already been convicted–and that the Feds are involved. Altho for now it’s the US Postal Service.

On the other hand, I’m STILL waiting for Spanier to be indicted, and on a charge more serious than “failure to report.” What does it take to be charged with conspiracy/obstruction of justice, allowing the abuse of children from 1998 forward, when they could have ended it then?

^^solid evidence. If they had it or find it for any of the other ‘stuff’ I have no doubt there would/will be a prosecution.

What I want to know is what did Corbett know, and when did he know it?

“There you go, mini. Let’s see what comes out of this.”

Yes, but this may simply miss the PSU piece entirely - specifically, who authorized, and paid for, and signed the checks for the Alamo Bowl “appearance”, etc.

" If they had it or find it for any of the other ‘stuff’ I have no doubt there would/will be a prosecution."

Question is whether they’ll for it. Regarding Penn State and JoePa, going back to the '70s, I seriously doubt it, unless the Gricar case gets reopened as a murder investigation.

Every time I think this story can’t get more sickening, it gets more sickening.

This doesn’t seem surprizing. Given who/what Sandushy is/was is anyone really shocked that he had child porn on his computer? Or mailed seductive letters?

It’s sickening, sad, horrific, but not really a shock.

I hope the investigators do follow the money, and I hope they get all of it out in the open and over.

^^^ Agree LasMa. Agree.

It would be a serious mistake for anyone to underestimate the postal inspection service. A very serious Federal investigative agency.

Jane I agree.

I’m still trying to absorb how Spainer could allow Sandusky to be the 2007 commencement speaker for PSU College of Health and Human development.

PennLive has a 5 part series on Second Mile.

I don’t know but the years of secrecy, what they allowed Sandusky to get away with, the “perks” he was given, ie “Commencement Speaker”, the list is endless, either they were all $$$ benefiting from it, or he had something on them. It quotes the Second mile reached/helped 200,000 children, but according to the report in reality only 6,000 + kids benefited from their programs directly. However millions and millions were sitting in their hands. Raykovitz and Genovese were husband and wife, both directors, yet people working at Second mile never knew they were even married?
Again it leads to more questions than answers.

There is a part of me that thinks that a lot of the behavior on the part of Spanier and the others is the fact that they compartmentalized the whole issue. By allowing him a fat retirement package, inviting him to speak at commencement, they were insisting that the emperor was wearing clothes. They behaved toward Sandusky as they would have toward a respected colleague. If they had treated him the way that he deserved to be treated they would have had to acknowledge, even if only in their own minds, that they had aided and abetted a serial pedophile. They would have had to reconcile the idea that they had failed dozens if not hundreds of children, past and present, with their day to day actions and lives. I am not suggesting that this would excuse their behavior but I’m just pointing out that it isn’t necessarily true that there is more here than what we already know. Maybe the tip of the iceberg is all there is.

^ I have wondered the same thing EPTR, if they compartmentalized and denied the possiblity of what Sandusky was doing with those boys. But when I think that, I am reminded that they didn’t have to KNOW what he was doing to be concerned, given their roles as leaders, and in Spanier’s case, president of the university. He had a responsibility to report and address suspicions, and to be taking appropriate actions to be sure he wasn’t possibly continuing…I know you know this, it’s just where my own mind goes when I think they were simply having a hard time reconciling what they had been told.

To who? And when? I’m not supporting the guy but there had already been one investigation with no prosecution.

No vote or motions today.
