TDRAG- If you took a year off to work and lived with them you could be classified as instate, otherwise, no.

But it would have to be a year before you started at Penn State.

I got waitlisted as well. Oh well, it wasn’t my top choice school, but it would have been nice to know that I got in.

TDRAG - Whether or not you believe me is your choice but it’s true. I had the feeling I got screwed but I wasn’t sure because of all the hype on how competitive admissions at PSU is becoming.

Is there anything I can do about this? I mean, I don’t care THAT much, because it’s not my top choice (I’ll be attending UConn’s honors program unless I get admitted to UMich or Notre Dame, which is a longshot considering I didn’t even get into Penn State). But I still would like to have it as an option.

shortnproud, did you apply to Smeal as well? It seems like many people were accepted after the 11/30 “deadline” with lesser stats than yours or mine.

DAMN IT! I GOT WAIT LISTED! goddamn it.

linkin park t.t i feel the same way, and shortnproud , drop off the waitlist if you arent going to go there…lol…plz=) helps me out><

Tdrag: Lol!

i got waitlisted too.

does anyone know approx. how large this waitlist is??

One of the articles said 200 on the waitlist. I bet more people have added it as a safety and will probably not enroll.Depends how many offers were made. Remember they had 1300 more freshman than they wanted last year so they are being really careful about how they go about this. Honesty, the common application has changed the way college admissions is conducted. Most students do more apps. to more schools which creates more kids turning down their admissions. I don’t know when it will settle down but I believe all college admission people are struggling with this.

The sad thing is many people don’t bother to tell Penn State they are not coming. So who knows.

As far as the wait list size, i believe they said “A couple hundred”, how many is a couple? i dont know. But id guess anywhere from 200-750 students. Sax is exactly right, i know alot of people just from my school they arent going to PSU, they got accepted to UT-Austin or A&M and they were using PSU as a back up. So that means there is still hope for us yet! O ya, there was this one girl who did 56 apps at my school, it was ridiculous, she was in my eco class, and she had so many manilla enevelops, heyzues.

As sax said “The sad thing is many people don’t bother to tell Penn State they are not coming. So who knows.”

I find that very true and irritating. They got in but don’t want to go, however, they don’t bother replying to the school and telling them they aren’t going to attend.

56 Apps! 56! She Must Have Spent $3000 Applying To College. That Is Insane. Sweet Jesus. Omg!

Can people start posting their stats who got waitlisted? Just wondering what the competition looks like. =) Yep, she spent 2.6k she told us.

I got a 3.4 GPA, 1860 SATs, great recs and okay ecs.

I was waitlisted.
3.7 GPA
SAT: 660 Mt, 670 Rd, 770 Wr

SAT II: 730 Math, 700 US hist

EC’s: Pretty good leadership, work, and community service. Nothing extraordinary, no school sports.

Yea, this waitlist thing is an indicator of PSU’s nervousness about their pool, yield, etc. This is a different beast and they’re uncertain, recognizing that more students are applying to more places, and that they cannot afford to over-admit and enroll like last year. In fact they must enroll significantly fewer students obviously. Not to throw cold water on anyone’s hopes, because it’s not over until the lady sings, but I’d not count much on being admitted from a wait list. Make sure there’s a viable plan B or C in place because alot of those places are now going to get some of this fallout too. I.E., Clarion and West Chester will fill up faster with better students as will Allegheny, Mercyhurst, Dickinson, etc. Unfortunately, this class is near the peak of a tsunami prospect pool. It’ll subside, but not until this bunch is done and gone. gnashing of teeth and powerful lesson re: procrastination.

Yes, I’m hoping all you H.S. Juniors are taking note. Please save yourself some grief! Apply early!

yes … ESPECIALLY to any institution with rolling admits. or any that are increasingly taking more and more on the ED and EA dates. For competitive students, there is mostly downside to waiting.
