[Penn State Students Want Transparency on University Ties to Natural Gas Industry | StateImpact Pennsylvania](http://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/2011/11/11/penn-state-students-want-transparency-on-university-ties-to-natural-gas-industry/)

State College voted to ban drilling at last months elections. Interestingly, there is NO Marcellus shale under State College. Their vote was meaningless.

There were two other Pa. communities voting on drilling bans. The other two communities actually have shale gas and the possibility of drilling. Both communities voted down the ban.

This link refers to the pointless celebration that occured after the pointless vote.

Any way to “flag” a thread on here, because frankly this thread has nothing to do with a student deciding where or not to go to the university, and I’m personally sick of it showing up on this forum…

P.S. I’m frankly indifferent as far as the subject matter goes…I just think it belongs elsewhere…

It has to do with prospective students’ sense of social responsibility and accountability.

It has to do with evita’s interest in discrediting both Penn State and the gas industry.

I’m not out to discredit “the gas industry”; as a chemist I’m quite friendly towards progressive chemical engineering. I’m out to discredit irresponsible players.

Range Resources is considered to be the gold standard by people who understand the industry. You’ve attacked them multiple times and ways. You also continually bash Penn State.

<i’m not="" out="" to="" discredit="" “the=”" gas="" industry";="" as="" a="" chemist="" i’m="" quite="" friendly="" towards="" progressive="" chemical="" engineering.="" irresponsible="" players.=""></i’m>

I thought you said you were a student.

I agree with the others, take your venom elsewhere.

I’m a student and a researcher.

I’m not out to get Penn State; I have HS friends who go there. But maybe it should clean up its act a little so it’s not the target of news media (ignoring the Sandusky case).

Oh that’s why it tried to attribute its chemical leak (one of many) of sludgy “rainbow water” into local aquifiers to anaerobic bacteria!

Gee, I wonder why children’s blood levels of arsenic, benzene and toluene fell precipitously after moving away from Amwell Township!

You claim to be a person of science yet you make and cling to anecdotal evidence. Range is an open book. They publish their test results, chemicals used, etc. This has caused hugh problems for dishonorable people like you.

Connect the dots.

I’m sorry, a huge surge in environmental complaints following the arrival of the gas industry can hardly be dismissed as “anecdotal evidence”.

For a long time, the tobacco industry used the same tactic – that the incidence of lung cancer and smoking was “anecdotal”.

I’m sorry, we’ve had over 380,000 wells drilled in Pa., we’ve had nearly 4000 Marcellus wells drill in Pa. Your “huge”(only UVA uses that as a scientific term) surge in environmental complaints amounts to a handful of situations that are being handled by the courts.

Your comparison to the tobacco industry is lacking credibility.

Can you two take this somewhere else?

^^^
Yes…please. All this environmental stuff is distracting from the discussions of pedophiles and enablers.

As a Penn State Alum, this scandal has been difficult to understand. However, from reading these blogs, it’s obvious that other schools have attracted extremely undesirable people too.

Considering that environmental abuse was endorsed by the same people that enabled the child sex scandal, I don’t think so.

of quite different geology and pressures.

Environmental abuse is the description used by those who have no clue what is happening.

Try reading the complete sentence! The 4000 Marcellus wells drilled in Pa doesn’t even include the ones drilled in W.VA, Ohio, etc.

has anyone ever heard the expression “Don’t feed the ■■■■■”?? If you stop responding to this post it will fall to the bottom and be forgotten. If you feel you must continue to argue , pm each other.

Respectfully, I fail to see why this bothers some. Unlike many threads, we’ve continued with the original topic. Anyone who doesn’t like the discussion is free to skip onto another.
