People to People Student Leader Programs?

No offense, but I would have your daughter look at other programs if she is interested. Many students are selected for the program. It is similar to Who’s Who or National Society of High School Scholars. Both my sister and I were invited to join. My mother even went to the meeting, because my sister is in. My mother was interested in learning more about it, too. She talked to her friends. One of them said while she was on vacation in Eurpe, she saw the People to People group there. She said the the kids acted like a bunch of brats. That was enough for my mom. Yes, it is interesting, but I don’t believe that is worth the price. I believe it is a “gimmeck” program. If your daughter is interested in leadership, I would possibly recommend a JSA summer program or starting Student Dipolomats. Depending on his/her age, a summer internship, volunteering, or job would be more benefical.

In terms of college applications, it is not prestigous. Don’t get me wrong, I am one that believes you do things that are fun. And the program is probably fun.

Overall, I would recommend looking at other programs. There are so many programs out there with a better reputaton and offers more to the student. The program invites so many people, so it can have money.
